To meet as many people as possible and learn about their culture and beliefs. By understanding each others, we can (maybe) avoid wars and quarrels...
I'm very world-curious, I've been traveling a lot (set my foot on each continent before 30), always trying to stay with people to be able to know more about their culture. I think it's time for me now to welcome friendly people to my wonderful city. I've had international friends over many times and they seemed to have enjoyed it as they came back : ) Hope it will be your turn !
Life is like the Great Wall : long, sinuous, with uneven steps, but so wonderful !
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
With the very active organizing team of CouchSurfing Liège, we set up events, monthly and new members meetings.
I went couchsurfing (not thru this site though) in China, the US, Ireland, France, Romania, Tunisia, Sweden, Finland, Lithuania, Chile, Canada, Australia. Loved it (except those horrible giant spiders in Australia) and got to meet so many people and learn so much !
I surfed 2 couches in my first 2 years on CS, and had wonderful experiences with as wonderful people. *Edit*: since then I have been hosted a bit more : )
I like learning about the culture of the country I'm in, I love reading, the series Friends and Desperate Housewives, History, exploring the world, visiting my friends abroad as much as I can, meeting new people. As a teacher, I set up an exchange program with a school in Chicago and I love seeing my kids looking amazed when we arrive in the Windy City !
On a totally different subject, I love board games.

Music, Movies, and Books
My favorite movies are Billy Elliot, The Straight Story, Der Untergang, Lost In Translation and for the memories: The Sound of Music and Grease. Favorite authors? EE Schmitt, JK Rowling, Yasmina Khadra, Roald Dahl, Amélie Nothomb, Ken Follett, Sue Grafton, Jean Auel, George RR Martin (long live Tyrion!). Music? Anything, but I really don't like reggae...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Introducing my (at the time) 90-year-old Grandma to CS during a trip to Denmark. I bet she's the oldest CSer... Barely recognized her: she turned into a chatterbox with her 3 words of English and petted the dogs (she hates petting dogs!!!). Numerous other stories with her and my CS guests.
Visiting a pure village in India, going to their school and teaching a few things to the kids who were so amazing. It was such a powerful experience!
Floating in the Dead Sea.
Going to Brussels, Namur, Champion, cities in... Wisconsin!
New Orleans without lights as a storm was approaching.
Watching the New Year's Eve fireworks in Sydney with 1 million foreigners coming for the event.
Climbing to the top of the Great Wall of China and thinking I was going to die (one day I'll quit smoking!).
Watching the sun going down in Valparaiso with just the sound of waves.
Eating bugs at the night market in Beijing (since then I love scorpions... with salt!).
Feeling like a star in China and Thailand, as people wanted to touch me and my big fat belly for good luck. Yep, you read it right : )
Putting a piece of paper with a wish on it at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.
