About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Going to Europe to travel. Art is my main focus. There are many museums all over Europe and I want to see as many as possible. I will begin by traveling in Spain, Italy, France, Netherlands, Switzerland.

ABOUT ME

I was born in Santa Fe. My mom moved up to Alaska to be a teacher when I was 7. I love Alaska and call it home. Growing up in this environment has helped me appreciate the world. The natural surroundings and good people in Alaska are very rewarding. Nature is important because it is free from human design. I feel we all need a break from the city sometimes. Alaska provides all that you could imagine. There is allot to do in the summer and even more in the winter. But the world includes more than just nature. Culture needs to play its part too. I feel the need for culture. Art is really what pushed me to go on this trip to Europe. I have been an artist since I was 7. I have always drawn and learned to paint in middle school. I began by drawing and painting copies of the master painters. I connected to the Impressionists. I love Van Gogh, Manet, Monet,Picasso, Chagall, Dali, Vermeer, Modigliani, El Greco,Matisse, Renoir and I really enjoy my art too! Now I get to go see the museums and culture that influenced these great works!

PHILOSOPHY

Self-discovery is an ongoing task. I do not want to lose sight of who I am and where I am going. I am basically trying to keep up with myself and the world that I am in. People help me come to different understandings on these questions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My friend Wes just told me about the web-site. It is a very intriguing idea. I imagine my experiences CS will be eye opening to say the least. I have already had conversations with friends and family about CS. Allot of people in America would offer their homes so freely to travelers. In college I read about the ancient Greek practice of taking care of a travelers. It was the law of Zeus to offer hospitality to the traveler. I thought that this was a great idea then. Now it is happening again. CS is returning to the idea of hospitality and that is wonderful for everyone. I think that the host has the potential to gain just as much as his guest. In Alaska we are laid back though. I think that people have to look out for one another here. The wild Alaskan environment can turn harsh and this causes people to look out for one another. The community is strong here. I will be happy to house people if all goes well and I return to Alaska.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

First experience other than staying on friends couches. I like sleeping on couches. They are all different but still manage to each be comfortable in their own way.

Interests

Painting. Writing rhymes and making hip-hop. I just started to make music with my friends. Music is so fun to listen to, but it is even better to make. Going to concerts, walking & hiking, fishing, camping, traveling, talking to people, reading philosophy and good literature.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Godfather, 21 Grams, Dumb & Dumber.
I like all sorts of music but mainly hip-hop. Anything that grooves really. My favorite book is Don Quixote. My second favorite is Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Floated the Yukon River. 10 days of camping fishing and floating. Simple existence. No worries.

Teach, Learn, Share
