Death by satsuma. I love those little orange things.
I'm politically active and love a good discussion or debate - I enjoy sharing knowledge/experiences and learning about other ways of looking at the world.
I also like to go out dancing and/or have a couple drinks with friendly people. I used to dance (swing, lindy, blues, salsa, club, etc) 4-5 days a week, though I've gotten a little lazy in my old age....
I'm deeply idealistic and it's no good trying to talk me out of it. I guarantee it isn't an uneducated idealism. I relentlessly believe human nature is essentially good.
Cities are great, and I spend a lot of time in them, but I would rather be out in nature than anywhere else. I don't have a car, which leads to a lot of walking (which I love in the summer...not so much when it rains).
We can do anything we choose to do, if we're willing to make the necessary sacrifices.
All people have a right to what is necessary for life. No one has the right to profit at the expense of another. This can be extended into some unexpected areas of interaction.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Couchsurfing allows me (or my guests) to really integrate into and participate in a community even if it's only for a brief time. I'm so glad this site has made it easier!
I have hosted and couchsurfed with both friends and strangers (friends of friends, etc) for much of my life, and find it an altogether different and more rewarding way to travel.
- Dancing - Swing, lindy hop, Blues, Salsa, Samba, Club, Living-room-coffe-table, etc.

- Literature - I have a mile-long reading list.
- People - I am always making new friends and seeking new experiences
- The Outdoors - Like a true Northwesterner, I am happiest on a mountain or in the woods.
- human rights
- outdoor activities
- international relations
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The first thing that comes to mind is flying into Schiphol (Amsterdam airport) just before sunrise on a full moon last month. It was breathtaking. The moon sparkled on the water between the little dots of fishing boats as we moved in and out of little poofy clouds...then the coastline came out of the fog glittering....
Teach, Learn, Share
I have an excellent command of English, and can carry on pretty much any conversation in Spanish, but it isn't always pretty :)
I am knowledgeable about international human rights issues. A great way to gain my affection is to ask the right questions in this department. Or better yet, teach me something I don't know!
I did Yoga and Pilates for years. I'll do it in the living room if you want to join me.
