About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To die before I die, and then find out there is no death.

ABOUT ME

It's too much to say in such a short space. You'll have to find out for yourself (which personally I think is the best way). But if you can't wait you might want to check out the "My Website" link under "General Information" for a little more data.

PHILOSOPHY

In search for knowledge, every day something is acquired.
In search for the Tao, every day something is left behind.

And each time less is done until one achieves the perfect non-action.
When nothing is done, nothing is left to be done.

One conquers the world by letting things follow their own course.
And not interfering.

(Lao Tse, Tao Te Ching)

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hosted a little, since my town is not so popular, even though it's closer to the cool parts of Rio than most of the neighborhoods there.
I go to meetings and surf whenever possible.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used to list everyone I hosted and surfed with, where and for how long, but soon I realized that it would be impossible. So I'll just post this little map here:

Where I've been so far...
visited 25 of 196 countries (12.7%)

Interests

Meeting different people and cultures. Specially music, my greatest passion.
I also like singing, dancing, playing capoeira, psychology, logic, languages, theoretical quantum physics, oriental culture and philosophy, software development (my "trade")...

Music, Movies & Books

Béla fleck is my favorite musician (check out the flecktones, the best band in the galaxy), but I also like basically everything else. I love discovering new sounds and getting to understand them. I'm particularly not much into indie music.

Some of my favorite movies:
I (heart) Huckabees, Dangerous Liaisons, American Beauty, Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, The Lord of the rings trilogy, Braveheart, Star Wars trilogy, The Matrix, Cidade de Deus, Fight Club, The Incredibles, Hero, Shine, Yes Man, Snatch (and many more).

Some of my favorite books:
The Hobbit, Kabalmysteriet (The Solitaire Mystery), Tao Te Ching, What the #$*! Do We Know!?, The Power of Now, A New Earth, His Dark Materials Trilogy, Power vs Force, The Eye of the I...

One Amazing Thing I've Done

I make mine Victor Wooten's words:

I saw God the other day. She looked like you, He looked like me.
Now, I'm gonna tell you a story, And this one you can repeat. I saw God the other day Just walking down the street.
He said "I have something I want to tell you, Something I've been dying to say: You've been waiting for my return. The truth? I never went away."
I don't care if you believe me at all, I know who I saw, and it was God!
I said "hold on just a second! How do I know it's really you?" She gave me a simple answer, She said "you don't, unless you do."
"Wait a minute, I don't quite understand all of this. Tell me, what do you want from me? You see, I'm not a religious type of person." And He said "you don't have to be."
"I don't know if I'm the right person to talk to. You know a few of my puzzle pieces are missing." And She said "I speak to everyone, But not everyone chooses to listen."
"Well then, tell me how to treat my enemies. I mean, the people I despise." He said "the answer will be clear When you see Me in their eyes."
I don't care if you believe me at all, I know who I saw, and it was God!
I saw God the other day. She looked like you, He looked like me.
Now I spoke to God that day, And you spoke to Him too. And He told me that of all the miracles ever created, The grandest one is you.
"Now that you told me all of this, Can you tell me, what am I supposed to do?" And She said "you may think it's up to Me, But it's really up to you."
Well now my eye are open, And I can clearly see, That all the things I paid for in life I could have gotten for free!
Now I'm gonna share with you Her parting words that day, And you might wanna think this through. She said "if I only had one son, Then tell Me, who are you?"
I saw God the other day. She looked like you,
He looked like me.

-Victor Wooten

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach me something. Anything. From cooking to flying a kite, passing through local history and meditative techniques.

I could teach you some basic Capoeira and Krav Magá moves. Oh, and Portuguese. And I guess English too. I like to tell myself that I'm pretty good at it.

There's an important note about Brasil I like to give people: they make this drink there called cachaça. It's sugar cane alcohol. Costs 35 cents a quart. One quart of that stuff and you see God. Two quarts and you grow a pair of tight pants and an electric guitar.

You after two quarts of cachaça.

P.S.: OK, I admit, I'm quoting one of my gurus, David Lee Roth (yes, the lead singer from Van Halen. Watch some old interviews and you'll know what I mean)
