ABOUT ME

We both love what makes life colourful; travel, good food and wine, enjoying the company of good friends, the joy of learning and discovery.

Laura is a Medical Scientist in diabetes research, about to undertake a medical degree. Tom is in the final stages of his Chemical Engineering/Science degree. Our love for learning is not restricted to intellectual pursuits but extends to experiencing all that life has to offer from our own society to other cultures around the world.

In our spare time we enjoy socialising, cooking,indoor rock-climbing, traveling, and discovering new aspects of our wonderful city Melbourne!

PHILOSOPHY

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Just beginning... currently traveling and hoping to surf a few couches around the world. Definitely looking forward to hosting a few couch surfers upon our return to Australia!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We are still just beginners in this program, but so far we have had some diverse, yet all incredible, couch surfing experiences staying with people in the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. We are hoping to add more experiences to this list!

Music, Movies, and Books

Lots of music: From rock (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Ramones etc) to the classics (a bit of Frank Sinatra etc), as well as a bit of dance, pop, and the occasional ballad.

Books: Just about anything outside the Mills and Boon genre. Probably easier to list the favourite authors: Jane Austen, Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Jasper Fforde, Fyodore Dostoevsky, Amelie Nothomb, George Orwell, Oscar Wilde, just to name a few. Plus a few non-fiction books, particularly science writing. We are currently working our way through the top 100 books of the 20th century.

Movies: Usual Suspects, Bond, Amelie, Streetcar Named Desire, Snatch and LockStock, Scarface, Dirty Dancing, and so on...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So many amazing events, experiences and people make this the wonderful world it is - how to choose?
- having the opportunity to see many aspects of Australia, from the dry deserts to the incredible beaches
- living in a foreign country for a year (Laura lived in Belgium in 2003)

Teach, Learn, Share

Tom can cook, knows his wine, and can do engineering maths (useless day to day!) and is a fount of useless trivia.

Laura is well versed in all things scientific, widely read, and speaks French.
