Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

To experience cultures and lifestyles I am unaccustomed to

ABOUT ME

I have lived in Niagara Falls for the entire span of my life and at the moment I have no plans on moving in the future, although the possibility remains on the table.

I am a 19 year old Canadian who is in University for Political Science and plan on bringing equality to the people of the world. I stand at 6'3" and for some reason deem this information appropriate for my description... anyway, hockey and soccer are two great passions of mine and the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Football Club are by far the two best teams (in my eyes) on the planet.

I don't smoke or drink, but that doesn't mean I segregate myself from those that do. I am extremely laid-back and am always looking to have fun. I don't appreciate or respect arrogance and intentional ignorance ('I don't care because it doesn't affect me' etc..). I am always there to help whoever needs it and can't stand for injustice of any kind - I'd much rather go without if it meant I could help solve a problem.

I am a firm supporter of equal rights for all and it really strains my brain when people try to justify oppression on any sort. We are here to co-exist; not to dominate; not to pick and choose who can do what and who can't. We can get along and we can all live with a decent standard of living. We have the resources to end poverty yet we have failed to do so; why? This is what I intend on working for once I graduate with a degree. I plan on traveling to inform myself about the differences between nations, races, ethnicities, cultures, governments; what we can do to fight injustice and push for equality and why nothing has been done as of yet. Yes, you can read about of all this and educate yourself that way, but no one will argue that a first-hand experience is best.

I have more to me but if you want to know then ask. I feel a little lazy at the moment and am trying to avoid making this like my Facebook account.

PHILOSOPHY

The West needs to realize that it is because of them that others countries are starving, fighting and dying. It is because of their materialistic and demanding ways that have caused the problems of today. I am not blaming them flat-out, for they did not know what was really going on.
Big business has moved operations over-seas to lower costs because the West wants cheap goods. This in fact tends to increase the poverty in their area of the world and often they are paid next to nothing for back straining work.
Governments (specifically the U.S.) place oppressive dictators in power that are "West-friendly" so that they can extract oil for cheaper.
The World Bank loans money to countries and as a result, they are forced to devalue their currency and then pay back the loans WITH massive interest slapped on top. Then they are criticized for not being able to pay.
The UN refuses to send troops where they are needed to keep the peace and stop genocides because there is no force from the people and because there is no financial incentive to go over (Bill Clinton on Rwanda) and it's only human life to gain, not oil or money.
All of these and more result in anger, depression and aggression from the people who must live like this. The world would not remain quiet if people were to burn down a neighbourhood, rape the women and take anything of value in a Western nation - why should we remain quiet to it happening in other countries? Why should they suffer for our oppressive past and racist behaviour?

My philosophy is that this can all change. We need people to fight and push for others to listen. Once people become inform and think of what is happening, they will then (hopefully) join the cause and demand we change our ways and help the ones who need it.

The above might seem a little eccentric but it is not. I believe we have a responsibility to protect and care for those who cannot do so on their own - regardless of race, nationality, disability or whatever else one can name off. The people make up this earth - why should all have a say, a right to exist humanely and the ability to make change.

Música, películas y libros

I don't watch too many movies but I love comedies and historic films.
I love many genres of music from Metal to Rock to John Prine, Stompin'Tom to Michael Buble and back to Classical.
I'll read a good adventure story without anything too far-fetched, history, science or anything else informative.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I am the co-chair of the Youth First Minsiter's Conference (a national event for the Youth Government of Canada that is to bring together youth 14-24 from across the country to discuss what can be done to improve our nation in many ways). The conference runs from Nov 21-23/08 in Toronto Ontario and is to be a blast!

Enseña, aprende, comparte

Canada is NOT like the United States. Yes our cultures are a pretty similar but we are typically politer, better mannered, more intelligent to the world around us and just cooler in general. We believe that people should be helped if needed where many Americans feel it is one's own responsibility (at least that is their government's response). Lastly, we are proud of our country but not arrogant. We respect others more and are not a theocratic fascist state like the U.S. is becoming. :D Hope I didn't insult anyone! lol
