ABOUT ME

i breathe. i feel. i think. i try to enjoy as much as i can. i try to be friendly and kind. people intrigue me. i like to laugh. i love live music. i can't dance very well, but am not afraid of opening myself up and moving around. i sway and clap or stomp. i go "wooooo-hooooo!" in between songs. i like to drink beer, don't do liquor and would like to drink more wine. not a drunk, though i sometimes get drunk. i love to eat and would like to learn how to cook better. i don't do fast food and try to eat what i think is good for me. i smoke, but i roll my own which i think is better. they don't smoke or stink as much and there are no butts to worry about. i clean up after myself and am conscientious. i try to be responsible and self-sufficient. i read a lot. it keeps my mind occupied and is fairly entertaining... i like to be outdoors. i like animals. i like to take pictures (sometimes more of things than people). i love the sky - it's never, ever the same. i like broadening my perspective and consciousness.

my sister is my closest friend. we're almost 12 years apart, but have lived together since she was 16 when my mom was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's. it's been interesting to see how i've rubbed off on her. she reflects the better parts of me and it makes me grateful to realize that i have something positive to contribute. now she's in college and she keeps me from acting my age. i'm still young at heart thanks to her.

PHILOSOPHY

ever-changing and evolving.
i try to be a Good person so that Goodness comes my way. it seems to work. i also try to live stress-free because stress is so bad for you in so many ways. it's tough sometimes not to worry but things always seem to work out. if you don't act like a fish then the shark won't eat you. i don't lie. ever. really. like to think that i'm confident enough in myself, my ideals and values for the right reasons not to have anything to hide. doesn't mean i think i'm always right, though. believe that being honest will earn honest feedback and will lead to learning and growth. it's a wheel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

none, officially. haven't done much traveling out of my home state until fairly recently... when visiting places overnight, i usually just got a room somewhere. i drove to california from north carolina in the spring this year and stopped at state parks to camp along the way. that was fun.
once when in D.C. for a show, my friend and i became acquainted with a fellow also from NC who needed a place to crash so we invited him back to our room where he slept in the recliner. i remember being nervous about it 'cause people always warn you about hidden motives/intentions of strangers, but he was super cool and ended up showing us around the city the next day. his friendliness made the trip way more enjoyable and stress free.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

drove up to the Grand Canyon at night to camp. it was so dark that only the road was visible in the headlights. 20 mph, sharp curves, an elk!!! the biggest animal i've ever seen outside a zoo. we camped in the park. next morning, to the visitor center and up a short trail that led to the rim of the canyon. we crested a small hill and then the canyon more or less exploded into sight. having driven at night, we had not caught even a glimpse of the canyon and seeing it all at once like that made me cry. my brain was not prepared to handle it. i felt very small, very human and it changed my life.
