Readying myself to set out on an epic journey.
My name is Veronica Mary Lumholst Smith and I am a receptionist. But not for long!!
I consider myself to be a fun loving free spirit with lapses of neuroticism. I tend to freak out everynow and then about "what I want to do with my life" but get over it pretty quickly.
In my free time I enjoy reading, wandering through all types of second hand/vintage/consignment stores, discovering new foods and restraunts, checking out art galleries, roaming the streets, walking in parks, road trips, and swimming whenever and wherever!
My father comes from Ipswich,England and my mother from Rhodesia,Zimbabwe, which makes me first generation Canadian. While I love Vancouver I feel just as comfortable and at home across the globe in a foreign country.
Travelling I believe is in my blood, as my great great uncle is the explorer Carl Sofus Lumholtz ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Lumholtz ). I did not know him but he is truly an inpsiration and someone I hope to emulate.
I am in the process of planning the beginings of what I hope to be an amazing change.
I'm a receptionist because I'm not going to school and I don't know what I want to do, it's a means but not a passion.
Growing up I was lucky enough to get to travel alot with my family and the love of new experiences has never left me. I have decided that untill I know what I want to do I am going to travel, because right now travelling is what I want to do. I'm not going to be setting off untill 2009, so untill them I am more than happy to get to meet and know fellow couchsurfers and show them around my hometown of Vancouver.
I have recently read the book " Time Was Soft There: A sojourn at Shakespeare and Co." and it has truly inspired me to let go of alot of fears about money when travelling, because you can always find people who will want to help you, and truly, that is when you have the most satisfying experiences. I am hoping when I visit Paris that I will get to meet the owner George Whitman and perhaps even be offered a bed in Shakespeare and Co. I recomend this book to all couchsurfers as Shakespeare and Co. is truly an inspiration.
I realize this about you is a bit scattered but, hey! I'm a bit scattered!
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
"Be not inhospitable to strangers lest they be angels in disguise."
I try my best to never judge a person, everyone has their own story and their own reasons for being who they are. Aside from that I'm not sure what my personal philosophy is, I feel too young and uninformed to have made up my mind about the world. Nor do I know enough about politics, which I admit is a flaw.
I believe everyone should be given the chance to pursue their happiness.
I believe everyone should live in another country before they settle down.
I believe in trusting others and thinking them good.
I believe that everyone has something to say and contribute to the world.
I believe in the kindness of strangers.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I joined the couchsurfing community 0ctober 2nd 2008, so I have yet to participate. But I hope to be able to show people around Vancouver, and introduce them to the great laid back community here.
I also hope to be able to offer the occaisional couch, as I do live with my family still it's a bit of a hit and miss situation at the moment.
I hope to contribute through showing people that no matter what age or culture you are you can find friendship anywhere in the world!
No "official" couch surfing experiences as of yet. But I have spent many a night in the small okanogan town of Penticton bouncing around peoples couches.
Getting some travelling under my belt.
Reading anything and everything I can get my hands on.
Learning new things!
Listening to music from almost all genres (nothing about killing babies though)a big fan of the Canadian indie scene.
Sailing up the coast of BC with the fam.
Trying new foods
