About Me

I guess I'm considered to be a "Nomadic" Couchsurfing Ambassador now, as we're getting ready to hit the road for a multi-year round the world trip. It's also why my address verification is "pending" - I don't have one! That's why we are not accepting guests at the moment. But if we end up staying somewhere for a month at a time, and if we can accept guests, we'll certainly do that.

CURRENT MISSION: On a round the world trip!

I am a Canadian who has lived in the States since 1999. I enjoy meeting travelers from all over. I love talking about how to travel frugally. We travel frequently ourselves - mostly international. I'm in my late 40s, but I don't feel anywhere close to that.

PLEASE NOTE: I am not likely to host people who don't take the mission of CS seriously. Please create a decent profile or don't request my couch. I generally don't host people who don't host. BUT... I make exceptions for true travelers. If you are one of those, please request. I will know who you are. :-)

I only host people with CS profiles.
If someone traveling with you doesn't have a profile, we will not host that person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We host a lot. Over 550 people since 2009. I don't attend the Atlanta CS events as much as I used to, because they're usually at bars (which I have no issues with) and start later. When I was younger, this wasn't an issue! But hey, I'm older now! On weekends, we're generally free to show guests around the city. I offer members help in creating profiles/writing requests. I answer questions about Couchsurfing. If I can't help you, I'll find someone who can!

We're on Couchsurfing to help other people discover the world, to help you see more of the world than you could afford to see if you had to spend money on accommodations. We're here because, although we travel a lot, meeting other travelers is almost as fun as doing it ourselves!

Interests

I like politics and lean left because that is where the truth usually is. I am an atheist, but I am a friend to devoutly religious people who are decent human beings. I love animals.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite movies are Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hiked a crater on Mt. Kiluaea in Hawaii. I sang the national anthem at a pro baseball game in Toronto. I saw a naked guy with a scrotum the size of a cantaloupe on a secluded beach in Hawaii. I have photographic evidence. (Oh puleeze... You would have taken the photo, too!)

The most physically difficult thing I've ever done was hike up Acatenango in Antigua, Guatemala. It was worth it, but I will NEVER do it again.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I can teach you how to quit your job and travel the world on $75 or less a day. I'm a PADI divemaster, so I can talk all day about scuba diving!
Learn: I've become fairly good with my Digital SLR. But if you know photography, I would probably love you. I have become pretty good with underwater photography, particularly macro. Can't seem to get Wide Angle to agree with me!
Share: Sharing is for commies and hippies!

Cooking / Food: I also LOVE to learn how to cook different food. I have been shown foods by Chinese, Japanese, German, and Tunisian guests. If you have a good vegan recipe from your home country, and if we can find the ingredients here in Atlanta, I would LOVE to make it with you!!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a good cook! There's that. I can also give you good advice on how to be a good host (I've done it about 550 times!). Well, at least stuff that's worked for me. :-)
