About Me

Quite a few years ago I started traveling and have not stopped. I teach full time and absolutely love my job, but take full advantage of my time off. I love to meet new people to share our cultures, beliefs and knowledge. It is travel experiences that I bring into my classroom so often. It is traveling where I met my wife. Now we have 2 little boys, and I hope to inspire them to see the world also. I am easy-going and pretty much open to anything.
I have been with CouchSurfing for years now, and was even with the Hospitality club in the past, so I am a big fan of the Couchsurfing ideals!

PHILOSOPHY

Love to laugh, love to learn.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

It is all about respectfully sharing our lives and experiences..

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed couches and offered mine for years, and it has been a wonderful experience!

I have been lucky to have had great hosts and met many wonderful and interesting people. One thing I always try to find is that balance between spending time with your host, but at the same time understanding that they have a life, and spending time on my own.

I have taken a break from Couchsurfing for a while now - gotten married, had 2 little boys - but the experiences I have had with it have left an indelible mark on my life. I have kept in touch with some people for years now, and were lucky enough to meet some of them again in my country. I am looking forward to returning to the Couchsurfing community.

Interests

I love live bands and have been into Rock and Roll my entire life.

I am constantly reading about history, politics, science, and anything else that interests me - I am always open for advice on what to read next. Books like Sapiens changed my perspective on history and how the world works. Lately I have read mostly non-fiction. Meanwhile, I love good sci-fi or fantasy, such as Red Rising or The Name of the Wind. Several years ago I created and ran a magazine for my school district called "The Review Club" that reviews music, movies, books, vacations, restaurants and just about anything else. Do you want to talk about movies, music, books or whatever? - I am all for it!

One interest I am so incredibly grateful to pursue, is seeing the experiencing things AGAIN for the first time. My 2 little boys have allowed me to do this. It can be building with them, playing hockey in the street, or just walking around the streets of New York City.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Survived this long

Teach, Learn, Share

I live to learn. I may be a teacher, but I am also a professional student. Every day I realize there is more that I do not know! I specifically teach the Earth Sciences (geology, meteorology, oceanography), Astronomy, and Biology. I love ancient history, so I went to an archeology field school on a Roman site a few years ago. World War 2 history fascinates me also ever since my grandfather discussed it with me as a child.

I love to cook and truly enjoy trying new foods. I would like to learn to cook and try some new dishes.

One of my goals is to try as many local beers as possible! Help me!

I often find the best things to do in a new place are free. It can be just walking the streets or hiking around the area. Walking with a Couchsurfing host is the best, since they can show you those little corners of life you would never know about.

I love to see new cities with good people, and the best experiences are meeting locals who can give you the REAL story and introduce you to the REAL spirit of that city.

What I Can Share with Hosts

It is all about respect, gratitude and being open-minded.
I still have that childlike sense of wonder for the world. It is great to have the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. Couchsurfing provides a platform to do this like nowhere else. However, I am not a kid anymore. I understand that my hosts are real people with real lives. It takes a tremendous amount of trust to allow someone in your home. I recognize this very clearly. I am clean, independent and easy-going.
