About Me

I'm not even sure how I've found myself knees-deep into the niche field of Assyriology, but I did. There's something quite extraordinary about unearthing a piece of clay covered for thousands of years under desert sand, cracking your head to decipher its cuneiform signs and understanding just a tiny bit more about the peoples who performed in the grand stage of the history before us.

It's the story of real people who reach us from the ground: Ea-Nasir, who fooled everybody in the first ever heard of copper scam; queen Gašera, who begs her son-in-law, Syrian king Zimri-Lim, not to send a beautiful concubine to her husband as a friendly dude's gift; the scribes of fundamental literary pieces, such as Enuma Eliš, the Epic of Gilgameš; the Descent of Inanna into the Netherworld.

A bit about me: In principle, I've always been a student of literatures. I have a degree in modern literature (São Paulo), one in Biblical literature (Jerusalem) and about to start one in Mesopotamian literature (Geneva). Dancing is my favorite thing to do, even if I'm not very good at it. The hang outs in which I have the most fun are real hang outs, with real, curious people who wear their hearts up their sleeve. I'm a wild left winger, but I appreciate difficult conversations and love the humbleness of being wrong. I love rooftops, ruins, mountains, and just about any place with water. Rivers cutting through cities were the most exciting thing when I first stepped in Europe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It is true: I cannot afford the kind of traveling that involves hotels and nice restaurants, but neither do I want to. I'm on Couchsurfing for the precious offer of cultural exchange, because people bring valuable stories to the table and and I'd be a fool to miss on that.

I am mainly interested in finding friends and travel companions, regardless of their gender. I kindly request that you avoid suggesting meeting up if you anticipate that it may lead to something more.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Blaze, Tinariwen, Os Tincoães, Shkoon.
I will enjoy anything classical, electronic, techno, deep house, samba, rap, jazz, blues, desert blues, slow rock.

Everything changed when I discovered anything Wong Kar-wai & Kieślowski's Trilogy of Colors.

Besides ancient Mesopotamian literature... Le chat du rabbin really pierced through me. Roman Gary's La vie devant soi. Jean d'Ormesson's Le juif errant. Terezia Mora's Alle Tage. Paul Celan's poetry. Joseph Roth's Job. David Grossman's See Under: Love. Everything Bruno Schulz. Guimarães Rosa's Grande Sertão: Veredas.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've entered the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, twice.
I've climbed 5,592 m high Lascar volcano in Chile.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will be fully there: I'm not interested in spending traveling time on my phone, unless I absolutely have to. I'd be more than happy to cook or help you cook, preferably along with our favorite music and a glass of wine. I'd love to do things together, if both you and me have the time and the will. Most importantly, I will be myself: I'll stay shallow or I'll go deep depending on where our mood takes us.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Chile, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Morocco, Palestine, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In
