Sobre mí

I'm a wanderer soul with a passion for people-watching and a knack for untangling urban rhythms and stories. More often than not, you can find me hoping on and off my bike, hiding behind my oversized sunglasses or scrolling endlessly reading about random topics in a corner.

I love ice skating, crime documentaries and train and railway history (and spotting!).

I've had the pleasure of living in four different countries so far and had unique and unforgettable experiences in each. Mexico made me, Germany forced me to grow, the UK was a wake-up call and The Netherlands made me ME again. I've now made a little comfortable nest in Amsterdam, but the desire to go out and explore is still there and I am always looking for ways to explore more remote corners of our beautiful planet.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

Because I think that going somewhere and NOT meeting locals and seeing their way of life is like eating only some of the food on your plate, or not finishing a book...

Intereses

My interest in food, politics and urbanism are perhaps better reflected in my desire to go to new places. I like seeing how other cultures organise life and the world around them and how they shape it in the way they deem best. As a sociologist, I am always people watching and find enormous entertainment in putting the little pieces of this puzzled world together. I love topics related to human behaviour, deviancies, politics, (breaking) social systems and norms (...especially if we can find a way to remain deep yet lighthearted and humourous) as much as I love talking about films, food and a healthy dose of pop reference fuelled talks. The world can be a big place, and the more we learn about it, the scarier it gets, but there's beauty in that too.. I think we can learn from everything and everyone and I am always thankful for people that introduce me to new topics, ways of thinking and inspire me to pursue new goals.

Música, películas y libros

Filling this in is actually harder than it looks..
Movies: The Words. Spirited Away. Camino, The Butterfly Effect,
Fave Childhood Books: When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit. Ruby Red. St. Lucys Home for Girls Raised by Wolves. Harry Potter Series. We Were Liars. Not without my daughter.
Music: House and Techno for a night out. I guess I've been in The Netherlands for too long... General: No Doubt, Tatu. Placebo, Panic at the Disco, Green Day, To listen in my down time: Lana del Rey, Vanessa Carlton, Regina Spektor, Nelly Furtado, The Hush Sound...It really depends on my mood, but I can listen to pretty much everything, except screamo.

Algo increíble que he hecho

-Petted and held an alligator in a lagoon in the Yucatan Peninsula.
-Went to survival camp as a child in the desert of Coahuila and caught a snake and roasted it in foil under the sun... but didn't dare eat it!
-Said 'feck it' and held hands with a man in public in Moscow.
-
-Tried dried crickets and other insects in Central Mexico.
-Won a gold medal in an interstate taekwondo competition.
-Organised several reforestation events and trash picker-uppers.
-Booked a spontaneous trip to Tokyo to celebrate new years with my best friend.
-Left my home at 17 y/o to travel around Europe, worked and lived in different countries, always moving around and experiencing new things, just me, my backpack and a dream. 10 years later, I'm still here.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I think most of what we teach each and learn from each other is often subconscious. We can't always put our finger on it, but everyone leaves a little part of them behind with us.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

We could put a fire on on the laptop and have a make-do campfire talk. I would also love to cook some traditional Mexican food for you, or help you prepare something from your country, then share a nice talk over dinner.

At the same time, I'm always ready to hit the town, whether that's for a beer or a coffee, I just wanna walk around, sit down, observe, absorb it all in! and repeat.. maybe you can show me around? In return... I always research random things about public transport, infrastructure and architecture before going to a new city.. and I may not remember the important bits, but will happily share with you lots of random, possibly interesting, and sometimes semi-funny facts about your city, with a bit of luck, maybe something you didn't know already... and of course I always love to learn more from locals, as there's only so much that you can find on the internet. A place is nothing but the stories people tell about it.

I consider myself a very open-minded, laid-back and easy going person, I will respect your ways and your home, and all I want in return is a good time and good memories from my time away :)
