10 days Brisbane Trip. Suggestions on where to go and what to do.

Hi everyone,

I'll be on a trip to Brisbane in June. Need advice on how to get from OOL airport to BNE. Have been googling around but could not get a definite answer. Is it advice to buy bus/train ticket from OOL to BNE in advance? I would be arriving OOL airport around 10am.

This would be a leisure trip and have not planned anything yet. Would appreciate some advice on where to go and it would be also lovely for food recommendation. Foodie by default and I'm looking forward to this trip.

Thanks in advance.

Regards, Charlie

The G.C beaches are clean and plentiful, like Sunshine Beach and (NOOSA) north of Brisban. Buy a Go Card for tram, bus and train travel, go to Roma St, (Central Station) Brisbane City. Easy walk to see City Hall and plenty of food outlets. Find a Tourism shop to ask about a day trip to Tangalooma (half hour boat to Moreton Island). https://www.tangalooma.com/moreton-island. Just ask anyone for suggestions or help, most people will help you.

Thanks Peter. I'll see if I can fit a day trip into my list.

Hi Charlie,

This company may be able to help you: https://www.linktransfers.com.au/234UXJFWP15315F9C629.php?uid=AIRSHUT3

Otherwise, there is the option to take the train but you may have to commute into central GC before taking another train to Brisbane.

The option is yours though, I would recommend exploring the Gold Coast before heading north to Brisbane. My favourite places on the GC are Burliegh Heads and Broadbeach but as a tourist it is also worth seeing Surfers Paradise.

Brisbane Activities: Visit the exhibits at the Cultural Centre, Explore the CBD and Southbank, have a coffee and wonder in West End, (if you like animals) Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary (although Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on the GC and Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast are better in my opinion and you can do day trips), Story Bridge Climb, Have a picnic in New Farm Park, take City Cat (good places to stop: New Farm, Hamilton, Bulimba , Eagle Street, Southbank, go see some comedy at the Powerhouse (in New Farm park), see the view of Brisbane from the top of Mount Coot-ha, Rock climbing at Kangaroo Point, Day trip to one of the islands in Moreton Bay (options for Whale watching as well), Relax in our Botanic Gardens or Roma Street Parklands, See a game at Suncorp Stadium or The Gabba (depending on your sporting preferences), Take a day trip to one of our theme parks.

Brisbane Foodie Recommendations: Eat Street (walking distance from the Hamilton Ferry) it is a shipping container yard filled with 100's of small food vendors (take cash with you) - only open Friday-Sunday. Other Food Areas: Anywhere central Brisbane (UrbanList can be a good online source of reference), Bulimba's Oxford Street, Southbank, West End, Paddington. Brisbane is big on breakfast culture, you will be pleasantly surprised with the breakfast options on offer.

Brisbane Nightlife: Fortitude Valley, Eagle Street in the City, Caxton Street in Milton, Southbank (for bars like The Charming Squire, The Plough inn, Munich and Little Big House), if you like live music let me know your preference and I can help more there for venues - it is important you research the laws around nightlife in Brisbane to save disappointment).

Brisbane Markets: (my faves) Friday-Saturday - Southbank Martkets (day and night) Saturday - West End (Davis Park), Carseldine, New Farm Sunday - Milton

Hopefully this helps in anyway and also isn't too overwhelming. Send me a message if you would like any further clarity or detail.

Enjoy your stay in Queensland!

Hi Charlie - grab a go card from a train station, you can use them on buses, trains, and ferries. Install the translink app and it will work out the easiest way to get from A to B and will even give you a map for where to walk.

I'd recommend the Museum of Brisbane in City Hall, it's free and you can get free trips up the clock tower for great views of the CBD.

While you're in the city there is also beautiful Southbank, with parklands and nice places to eat, and the cultural centre which includes the museum, gallery of modern art, Qld art museum, Qld state library, and qld performing arts centre. If you have the money do a story bridge climb at dusk, you get the best views of the city. Riverside is also a nice place to have drinks of an evening :)

Australia Zoo is on the way to the Sunshine Coast, and is in the area of the glasshouse mountains, while the Gold Coast area has more to do for tourists like Draculas cabaret which is a great dinner show. The gold coast also has the theme parks. If you want to experience our natural beauty head to Mt Cootha Lookout, head north to Mt Ngungun, or head south to the gorgeous walks of Springbrook National Park. In the city there is Roma St Parklands and the Botanical Gardens but personally I don't think they're anything breath taking, nice greenspace though.

If you want good food Taro's Ramen in the city is some of the best in the world, and Gnocchi Gnocchi brothers in Paddington has a wild mushroom and truffle dish that is insane. And both of these places are cheap! There's also Eat Street at Hamilton which isn't a street, but a large food stall market with heaps of yummy food and live music and a few non food stalls. Sunnybank on the Southside has the best Asian food.

There's also a volunteer group of Brisbane welcomes or something and they give free walking tours of the city - you could look them up.

Hi Sarah, Thanks for recommending some places of interest. I'll look to add those into my list.

Hey Charlie,

bus/train with a GoCard is the cheapest/best way to go. Will be handy to have a GoCard for getting about Brissy too. Still on the topic of transport, definitely take a long ride on the CityCat (ferry) - it s the best way to see the city.

Aussie food experiences you should try out include fish and chips, pie and sausage roll and fancy breakfast - look up good places for each category on the urban list, generally their reviews are up to date and accurate e.g. www.theurbanlist.com/brisbane/a-list/best-fish-and-chips-brisbane

The five places I love the most in Brisbane are tagged below

Enjoy!

There's no direct train from Gold Coast airport. You will need to catch the 760 bus to Varsity lakes to get to the train system, but buses and trams around the touristy areas of the Gold Coast are mostly pretty good.

Charlie T.

@charles-tehKuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the info. All I need is the GoCard to board the bus to the train station right?

Daniel S.

@HYPERSHOCKBrisbane, Queensland, Australia

Yep. GoCard works for all public transport from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast
