Best to find travel companions in Hostels while traveling, where you will meet scores of other travelers face to face and see if their itinerary matches yours, or even get together for day trips.

I rarely 'travel' anymore due to my age but will send you my contact information by pm on CS - Your best route, as I can advise you is below from a seasoned travel bloqqer, remember if Going to Belize, Costa Rica and Ecuador there is a lot in between, your best route is north to south or south to north (starting in Ecuador, don't miss Colombia and flying to Panama or Costa Rica to continue your Central American journey recommend a minimum of 9 weeks and remember while June, July and August may be your 'summer' it is our 'winter' or rainy season in the tropics, as well July and August are kind of a "high season" for travel in Central America as many young people in North America and Europe, etc. are off work or school and head here, As for the rain usually rains anywhere from an hour to 4 or 5 and usually afternoons and nights. DO bring rain gear!!! As for hosts on CS contact them weeks in advance at least, and remember many hosts are natives who live and work in and around cities and large towns in Central America and many work during the weekdays and often have limited time to take you around often staing at hostels is a good option and also visiting them with your CS host, some CS ers are involved in tourism but don't expect a lot of 'free tours' offer to pay for gas and expenses.if going by vehicle....I have met 'freeloaders' on CS don't care for them. Anyway....... 6 Weeks+: Backpacking Mexico to Panama If you have 6 weeks or more than you can see the whole damn region. A trip to Honduras’ Bay Islands for some Scuba Diving is totally worth the effort. The Bay Islands are one of the cheapest places in the world to get your PADI certification. I got mine there and I had a fucking blast.

If you want to get your scuba certification in the Bay Islands and see the other countries, 6 weeks might be cutting it close for time. If you already have your PADI cert, you can cruise in for a few days, go diving, and be on your merry way. This 6-week itinerary is the whole enchilada as they say. There is so much to do and see, though I don’t recommend attempting to see and do it all. It is impossible!

I found a good balance between trekking, diving, visiting ruins, chilling out, and studying Spanish. If you do too much of either of those things you can lose appreciation for how special they are. I found it best to settle into a place for at least a few days before hopping on a bus out of town.

To make the most of this Central America backpacking route, I really advise you to listen to what your own needs are and making your plan from there.

You may wish to spend time in YES - Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua as well...be advised those entering Costa Rica or Panama require an onward ticket. flights to Ecuador can even be booked in Antigua, Guatemala travel agencies or online, there are also yachts via San Blas Islands, Panama to Cartagena, Colombia..a huge country, now booming in travel and tourism, possible to Bus from there to Ecuador, by the way no 'cheap tours' of Galapagos Islands and no CS ers on the Island....do your homework! As I said 9 weeks Minimum to do your adventure,,Central America looks small on the map, but no "Freeways" here...often The Travel Shuttles can save you time public buses can be very slow, did you know that Costa Rica has some of the worst roads in Central America and get potholed realllly bad during rainy season, when you will be here!
