Hello In Turkey, opening a bank account for foreigners has become stricter in the last 2 years. Previously, it was possible only with a passport, but now banks usually require MERNIS registration (residence address in the population system) and a valid residence or work permit.

Currently, the main requirements are:

Residence permit (ikamet) or work permit

Tax ID number (easily obtained from the tax office)

Address registration (done at the Population Directorate, proven with an official residence certificate)

Passport (with valid visa or entry stamp)

Some banks (especially in big cities) almost never open accounts for tourists anymore. But if you have a student residence permit, work permit, or long-term residence, it’s usually much easier.
