This is already too late by the time I'm writing this, however here are some pointers to anyone in the same situation:

look up BlaBlaCar between Budapest and Ljubljana (18 € as I write this, but since you take a shorter route, haggle! 230 km as opposed to the full 470 km)
look up Oszkar.com between the same route
a town called Balatonszentgyörgy near Keszthely is good to make a highway entrance if you can arrange it with the person that takes you
if this fails look up Flixbus as well on this same route perhaps (15 € one way as I write this)
in case you found a bus, you can ask them if they will stop in the cities Siófok, or Nagykanizsa, both of which are under 2 hours by public transport (75 minutes this, 92 minutes that), but since Budapest is 2 and a half hours by bus, you're not saving much time
