His question was if ot is far, not how expensive.
+25 mints ride journey Gatwick express train non stop services to victoria train station but it's about £17 one way
There are frequent trains that go from Victoria and stop at Gatwick.
The Gatwick Express is a dedicated train service but it is expensive.
Just purchase a ticket on a normal train that stops at Gatwick on its way soemwhere else eg. Brighton.
you can also get on a minibus from somewhere near Earls Court. Old Brompton Road. its cheaper than the train and the minibus is run by EASYBUS
If you take the Southern Rail instead of the Gatwick Express you can travel with an Oyster card and it's only £8. It takes 40-45 minutes. Obviously, you'll need to get an Oyster card and top it up in advance but you'd need that anyway to travel around London.
Worth noting that £8 is an off-peak fare - peak time is about twice the price.
There are many quick and less quick ways to get to Gatwick. That depends on your money and where you are located.
The best solution in terms of value and time is the Southern rail which leaves from Victoria, stops at Clapham Junction and goes directly at the airport in 30minutes on average.
Then you can also take the Gatwick express which also touches different places such as Victoria (it starts there) and other you can check on the website.
Then if you don't have your flight at 6am and you want to save money you can take the buses. There are National Express, Easybus and a couple of other which make the route London/Gatwick.
Avoid the cab which are too expensive (£75) except if you can spread the cost among at least other 2-3 people
Have a good flight and I hope you enjoyed London! ;)
Another option is trains from London Bridge which is cheaper (about £10.30) and if you pick the right service and can take about the same time (about 30 mins) although some services are quite a bit longer. National Rail has all the times and fares http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/.
