Hi ! There are some very beautiful islands very close to Kota Kinabalu (around 10-15 minutes by boat) to visit. I was in Manukan island in April and it was wonderful. The water was crystal clear, lots of fish and corals, I am going back there in a few weeks to visit other islands. There are also a few national parks around for hiking where I haven't been. Aside from the nature, there is not much to see, the town is very small and there is no notorious building except a clock that's a lot smaller than it looks like on the Internet !
