Hi! I only know of Queilen Bus (www.queilenbus.cl) and it takes a little more than a day to get here from Puerto Montt. It doesn't stop except in the border controls. I think you need to book it beforehand to be sure. This is all I can help you with, since I have 0 experience with buses going to Chile (the most normal way to travel north is flying) Good luck!

As of March 2017, there are 3 bus companies serving the route between Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas: Queilen Bus, Cruz del Sur, and Pullman Bus(?). Each company schedules 3 buses a week, typically leaving the bus terminal in Puerto Montt at 10 in the morning on "Monday, Wednesday, Friday", OR "Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday". There seems to be no Sunday departure. (Check the schedules with each company, as I can't guarantee this info is 100% correct with my limited Spanish). It takes about 30 hours to get to Punta Arenas, and the buses cross into Argentina to reach the destination (so make sure you have appropriate documentation or visas for both countries). Now about the bus route and stops. Departing from Puerto Montt at 10 am, the bus heads north to Osorno, where it makes a stop at the bus station for about 20 minutes. It leaves Osorno at noon, heading east to Argentina border. You might get a light snack on board at this time. After making stops for customs and passport control at both Chile and Argentina check-points, the bus takes Argentina’s Ruta 40 South. Passing by Bariloche, in the evening the bus stops at a road restaurant for 30-40 minutes, so you can buy yourself a dinner. Later at night there is a fuel stop at Perito Moreno (do not confuse it with the glacier of the same name). Reaching the town of Gobernador Gregores, the bus exits Ruta 40 and heads south-east. Passing by Rio Gallegos, the bus goes to the border with Chile, where passengers again go through customs and passport control. The bus arrives in Punta Arenas late in the afternoon, around 4 pm. It is strongly advisable to buy your tickets well in advance. I was lucky to buy the last seat on a Queilen Bus on Sunday morning for Monday departure at the bus terminal. I paid 50,000 Chilean pesos in cash (1USD =660 pesos at the time), as they did not accept credit cards. No seats were available for the next 10 days at any company! I also asked about tickets to Punta Arenas at Osorno terminal when we stopped there, and learned that prices among the bus companies can vary from 35k to 45k, to 50k. You might be able to buy tickets on the internet at https://www.recorrido.cl and maybe some other sites. Another, faster option would be to fly between the cities, but it’s beyond the point of this topic. Happy travels!

Hi! the ticket to travel between Puerto Montt to Punta Arenas cost 60.000 pesos (1 and a half day). Sometimes you can find low cost ticket for airplane in Sky Airline or Latam Airlines in similary prices and the travel it's ony two hours
