Is it safe to go to Tijuana right now (2018) as solo female traveler?(1day)

I invited a friend along and she refuses to go because it's not safe and it's "getting bad again." but I'm not too worried. Should I be? Any advice? Should I go?

Overall the crime rates have increased (which is probably what your friend is talking about) but its only in specific areas (non tourist). If you stick to the popular places (downtown, cecut, playas de tijuana, etc) with the normal precautions that you would have if visiting any other country, you'll be fine.

I can't speak from the perspective of a solo female, but I go down there every other week for soccer games. We go to bars before and after (Plaza Fiesta, Telefonica etc), and there is never any trouble - though people are usually in groups.

I think as long as you do your research and stick to the main areas, then you would be fine - there are certainly places I've been to that felt more dangerous.

Hello I'm living in San Diego and Tijuana for years. Usually I stay in Tijuana 3-4 days a week and haven't had any problem. Honestly if you look for bad things, you can find them anywhere in the planet. There are beautiful and safe places in Tijuana and I will be more than happy to show you and share with your friend. Even we could arrange to visit wineyards in Ensenada. Hope it helps

As a local, the short answer is Yes, it's safe. Violence rates are really high, but the crimes are targeted in between small time drug dealers. I've been living here for 24 years and I haven't witnessed a shooting once. However, as in any major city in the world, it's a good idea to seek advice to local people about which places are best to avoid, as well as finding good spots to visit, places that you may not find in the tourist guides.
