Also, how is the weather in September now? Are there a lot of mosquitos in this month? I get bitten a lot in general, so I'm trying to be cautious, and see if I better postpone my trip or no.

Yes it's safe to come to SL. Weather - rains occasionally Mosquitoes - it lives each month, not only in September. So even if you postpone your trip, it'll be still there when you come later. There're many options you can do for that.

Book hotels to stay, instead of guests house etc.
Incase you wish to stay in guest houses, ask whether they provide mosquito net.
You can buy coils from any local shop If you are planning to visit Unawatuna - this little hut do have net; "the beach hut"

One tip: avoid the beach boys 🤞 travel consciously, use your intuition and don't be naive.
