You may take a bus back to Karlovac and then get to Opatija from there, there is also a train line going from Karlovac to Rijeka

Or you can use BlaBlaCar to go to Opatija from Plitvice?

The best way is that you ask for that on desk after you buy ticket to plitvice lakes...they know the best...but i am sure that you have a lot of options :)
