Free CS Membership

After some time lying low - I was never and will not be a big poster here, I would still like to inform those that do not already know:

CS are offering free membership for 12 months for those who have not renewed their membership in the past.

Of course members that can read this thread have paid the membership fee, however maybe you know some/one who would like to take up the offer and would like to tell them about it.

What the reasons for this offer are, I decline to speculate ;)

Interesting - I was under the impression, that there are no countries anymore who are granted a waiver ... Have you taken a look as to when your membership ends? Maybe when your current membership ends you are required to pay?

I have two friends here in Munich who were former members of CS - one received an email and the other did not.

I pay the same annual fee I’ve paid for years with no additional costs (and no fancy “verification” requirements with additional fees via biometrics). If and when those basic requirements change, I’ll keep you posted.

I’m one such member. Had been active on Couchsurfing since about 2008. Hosted, moderated groups, gave a lot of help. Stopped participating when the Venture Capitalists took it in a different direction, from non-profit to profit, introduced hangouts and lost the core principles of the community. And it was a global community. We had no say in its new direction, just got removed, unless I paid to access. So I stopped. A good thing ceased. I received an invitation by email last week with a year’s free membership, so I’m back, surveying the wasteland. Groups without posts for years, where there’d been daily activity in the past. I’m here to see, can it be resurrected? I’m on this group because it is at least alive. So, hello folks. I’m here for you, not venture capitalists who don’t understand hospitality and community. Best wishes in a mad society on an overheating planet, where we either fight for what we love or relinquish it to greed and destruction.

I entered couchsurfing in 2008 too ...and I am still here

I remember the groups activity with nostalgia and would like to see that life comes back, making effort to keep that going
