The best/easiest way to get mobile data for a short (2 week) trip that starts in Cologne and ends in Amsterdam?

I'm traveling for two weeks in Europe, that will start in Cologne and end in Amsterdam, spanning Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands too. What's the easiest and quickest way to get a sim card so that I can have mobile data wherever I go in Europe?

Is it roaming between countries, (even though very short distance) or are there networks that operate across these really close by borders?

Are there pre-paid data packages?

I may recommend you to buy Telekom Sim card with 1GB internet packet just for around 10 €, free Telekom Hostspot in Germany and include Europe roaming.

Thanks so much for your recommendation! So with this, I would be able to use any wifi hotspot with Telekom in Germany? Are they quite plentiful?

And how does Europe roaming work? Does that mean the 1GB can be used outside of Germany too? And is there extra cost to roaming?
Is it possible to add data to this package if more is needed? (especially for outside of Germany)
And can I get this at the airport, or where might I have to go to get this?

yes, any Telekom hotspots in Germany and this is very useful. no extra cost for EU roaming. you may find it almost everywhere but do consult better with the ones from the Telekom shop.

You have actually quite good timing, since 2 months, there is no more roaming within Europe. I can recommend the Aldi talk 300 flat (300 minutes or text messages and 1.75GB of mobile data) which is around 8€ + 5 € for the SIM card and should be sufficient for your trip. You can buy it in every Aldi (discounter) store in DE.

There is Netzclub, a SimCard where you get 100MB/month for free, every minute & SMS is 9 Cent. But you have to order it online (if you know somebody in Germany to get it sent to) and verify it with your or his passport/ID. No basic fee, you will just get some advertisement every once in a while. I haven't used it myself yet but it seems to be a perfect deal if you only want to use basic mobile data for 2 weeks. Just a little administration to get done ;-)

I also recommend Telefónica (o2) network. Just go to an Aldi store and get an Aldi Talk simcard. It's prepaid, easy and cheap: for example 1,75 GB for 10€ and 5,5 GB for 15€. You can visit any other o2 shop or shopping centre. Enjoy your trip in Cologne!

5 differnt people 5 differnt ideas. I do not know much about it , which sim card etc.. But I can tell you , that we had couchsurfers from china ( see my friends list ) and from Russia , like Vlad .. And they had a EURO CARD from VODAFONE . VODAFONE is an British Company. That than is european wide.. ......... As well I know that the Company E+ / E-Plus called EUROPE plus , a green Company , is a dutch Company from Amsterdam and the smaller Office of E-Plus is at City of Düsseldorf , and Berlin / postdam.. but E-PLUS is a Dutch Company with european Headquarter .

last Thing , cause of all this shit and rubbish that is flodding europe . Bombing Terror everywhere. Gun Murderds , car bombs , knife killings , even in Cologne they steel and robber busses and kill People with it on the x-mas market in Berlin ( anis amry) .

That is a new law , that is very difficult to buy a prepaid Card etc. In the countries of Belgium and netherlands , and in Germany it is comeing as well , you only can buy sim Cards for Telefon , with Passport , bank Card, finger print , photo of face etc.. sometimes with DNA Profile.. It is a new euro law.. The Company ALDI - took in most Shops this ALDI talk Cards away. and LIDL does not even have it in stock in more in Belgium , Netherlands etc.. so you must beware of the damages a new NAzi REICHSTAG Berlin with crazy Führer Merkel , and some other rassists Politics like SPD , CDU , Left wings Terror , green nature etc, causes.. just too Keep in mind..

Like two other users already recommended, Aldi Talk is a very good option. I just traveled from Germany to Belgium and I can attest that there are really no roaming fees anymore. But it's important that you don't use the simcard as Pay As You Go, but buy a package (Aldi Talk 300 is good enough, as already recommended here). You will have minutes/SMS and internet at a quite good speed available, to use anywhere in the EU.
