best way from Colombo to Kandy

I arrive in Colombo at midnight 00:10. I want to go to Kandy the next day. 1-Is it better to go by train or bus regarding the price and see the beauty of the route? 2- Is better to stay in one place close to the airport or come to the city center, Colombo Fort? 3- if anyone accepts guest in midnight, will be a great help. The best way is by train. It's going to be a beautiful train ride. I think you'd better find a place a little further from the Airport and closer to Colombo. Alternatively, you could travel closer to Gampaha town or Veyangoda town, where the Kandy train usually stops.

Yup intercity train from Colombo is the best. just note that the intercity is the fastest about 2:30 hrs but leaves early in the morning. I think theres one in the afternoon as well.
