Temporary Exhibition: By the water By the Water: The Life and Art of Halil Paşa focuses on the life and artistic production of Halil Paşa (b. 1852 – d. 1939), a key figure in the transformation of painting from the Ottoman Empire to the early Republican period. A military-trained painter, Halil Paşa brought together academic discipline and impressionist sensibility, playing a pioneering role in the emergence of the open-air painting tradition in Türkiye. The exhibition offers an in-depth exploration of the artist’s life and work, from lesser-known biographical details and his artistic education to his understanding of light and color, his drawings, mastery of landscape and portrait painting, and his production across different geographies.
