QUICK HISTORY: Grew up in rural Pennsylvania (USA) surrounded by Amish . . . spent four years at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota studying math and philosophy . . . taught high school math in rural Kentucky for a couple of years . . . did a doctorate in ancient philosophy in Arizona . . . lived unemployed in Oslo for a year . . . taught and wrote philosophy in Bergen and Lisbon . . . finally got a job in Ålesund teaching and writing philosophy for the rest of my life. . . CURRENT MISSION To live a good life well (is this redundant?) . . WHERE I'VE LIVED Denmark, England, France, Germany, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, United States . . . SI HABLAS OTRO IDIOMA (I can understand these languages, but good luck getting me to speak anything other than Norwegian and English, unfortunately!) Ich kann aber Deutsch verstehen: 2015 bin ich als WWOOFer in Niedersachsen und Baden-Württemburg gewesen, und 2019-2020 war ein Fulbright-Jahr in Frankfurt an der Goethe-Uni. DA: Jeg har familie, der bor i Danmark på Lulland. Jeg boede hos dem en måned i 2017; også jeg gik til dansk skole for en periode, da jeg var yngre. Jeg synes stadig, at dansk er det mest interessante skandinaviske sprog. NO: Jeg bodde i Norge før første gang fra september 2021 til april 2023, og etter ett år i Portugal er jeg endelig tilbake i Norge for godt! . . . and if you speak ancient Greek or Latin, I definitely want to meet you.

CURRENT MISSION Mutual cultural understanding ABOUT ME Hi, I am Sofie from Norway! I always try to improve and do better, learn new things and broaden my perspective. When I’m not at work I love to be outside, exploring the mountains, hanging out with friends, going to small concerts, enjoying a quiet time at my family’s cabin by the sea, and in the winter time - I love skiing. I became a journalist because I believe that every person has a story to tell. I am very curious and love to learn about - well pretty much all kinds of things. I enjoy company and having a good time, but also appreciate time to myself sometimes and enjoy my own company. I love traveling, because it always makes me see things in a new perspective. Sometimes in life, we get stuck in our everyday bubble, we forget to notice and appreciate the little things around us. As a traveler, you become like a child again, everything is new and strange and wonderful or confusing. You have to be alert. You have to be open minded and, sometimes, just going with the flow can bring great, unexpected moments that could never be planned or arranged. Traveling, or meeting travelers, is a constant reminder that your way is not always the best or right way, and that there is a bit, incredible world out there.

My name is Eirik, i come from a small town on Norway's west coast called Hareid. In English, I usually go by just Eric... :-) I currently live and work in a place called Ulsteinvik,Norway I grew up around here, and been living here most of my life when not travelling to far flung destinations. I work as a travel consultant for business travel. Might sound exciting,but in reality is just a regular office job. But I do get some discounts here and there.. :-) Been doing that since 2012,and I'm still there. Might be a sign that I am enjoying it.. ;-) The area I live is in the Sunnmøre region. Both Hareid and Ulsteinvik is on an island, which is located about 30 minutes south of Ålesund city centre. My passion is to travel. I love experiencing new cultures, languages meeting people and trying all kinds of food. So far I've been to over 100 countries on all continents.
