I’m a South African based in Goa, India. My main ambition in life is to travel and explore. I’m fortunate to have a career built on traveling to new places. Circus arts and movement arts are my favourite way to pass time. Stargazing, deep conversation and the moments between that cannot be planned.
CURRENT MISSION RUNNING RESORT ABOUT ME GUSS PHILOSOPHY respect
Up front - if looking to be hosted by me... copy-paste or generic requests get an instant decline. Hosting very selectively because of the huge numbers of 'non profiles' that send me one line demands to be hosted. If you are looking at my profile with a view to asking to be hosted, then please read the "My Home" section on my profile fully (especially right at the bottom -- "You Should Know") before reading on / asking me to host you. And, do please read at least half of my main profile. I am picky about who I host. NOTE: I will definitely NOT host you if you only host people of one gender and / or you want to come with friends and party. Everything else is up for discussion. After years in several jobs across journalism and the corporate sector, I quit to travel. Was on the road from January 2012 to May 2018. So far, I have visited a shade under 70 nation states in my life. I like: Good food and drink; Irish pubs with singalong live music; Human company when its friendly and laid back; Intellectual discussions across various issues – history, politics, the human conundrum… long list! Smiling, laughter and shared happiness; Full moon nights; Both the sea and the mountains; Sunrises and Sunsets; Mother Earth that we must keep trying to protect (ironically for our own safety) from the greed and violence of fellow humans; Books that stir dormant grey cells; Mushy movies; Jazz, rock'n'roll, the blues, folk and classical stuff; Walking with no particular place to go...the list is like that...a long and winding road with no full stop... In short -- am just another human being who strives (conceptually at least) to be a better fellow human today than he was yesterday. PHILOSOPHY Live and let live. One life -- I live it experientially...not by any socially dictated norm. Having said that, I'd like to believe one's excesses occur in moderation. Attended a J. Krishnamurti boarding school as did my father -- strong influences there. To me - In Life one is always becoming, never quite seeking to become... ...however, one of the very few things am quite certain of is this: One must first treat fellow beings well. On a consistent plane. Regardless of race, colour, creed, sexual preferences, gender... And, then and only then, I reckon, one is sensitive enough to begin delving into the realms of philosophies. The prevalence of considered opinions without being opinionated is what, to my mind, is most desirable. As for religion -- since the beginning of civilisation, it has caused more death and misery than the lust for political power has. Knowing this, how can I even think of subscribing to any?
Friend Requests from strangers? This isn't Face Book... I don't like this CS feature... Summer 2020 I ended up unexpectedly stuck in Covid Locked Down India. I never did make it home. I've been here from October 2019 to May 2022.. End May 2022 to October in British Columbia.. :-) And July to end September 2023 in BC too.. NOW BACK IN GOA In 2018 I rode about 15,230 Km (9,500 miles) 2 Countries. 2 Oceans and a Gulf. 6 Provinces. 18 States. In 2019 I rode about 19,400 Km (12,060 miles) 3 countries. 1 province. 12 States. I had big ride plans for 2020 and 2021, but still stuck here in Goa... I mostly did hotels/motels those past 2 summers... also stayed with some friends, and strangers I met along the way. I hope to make it more interesting and economical next trip by staying at peoples places.. either found here through Couch Surfing, through other Riding Apps I've discovered, and through the people I meet along the way. I have tons of experience doing this all over the world, and have made some life long friends because of it. So if you happen to come across my profile, and are reading this, please do drop me a message. I'd love to meet you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm living in South Goa, India and in British Columbia, Canada. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ May 2019 started a motorcycle tour that took me to 3 countries. 1 province. 12 States. Oct/18. Back in beautiful BC for a short time after a 2 month ride on my new 115th Anniversary Heritage Classic 114. Since then... 2 Countries. Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Great Lake Superior. Gulf of Mexico. 6 Provinces. 18 States. And 15,000 km (9,300 M) (not to mention outrunning hurricane Florence July 2018 Arrived back in BC.. I'll be traveling across Canada and the USA on my brand new Harley Davidson motorcycle... No time limits... Only weather to be a factor eventually. No route decided... will probably be a day to day decision. You can follow my adventure here: https://www.facebook.com/JungleMotorcycleTours/ In the last 2 years, I've visited Canada. USA. Germany. Czech Republic. Slovakia. Moldova. Cyprus. Israel. The Uk. Thailand. Laos. Burma. And India of course. Some Important Notes: -Please spend a few minutes making an interesting Couch request showing that you want to get to know me and are not just looking for free space. No copy and paste requests. I will ignore them. -I Host only 1 CS at a time. Requests from friends traveling together will be ignored. -Please read my whole profile. -Please have your profile filled out and your picture uploaded before sending me a couch request. -Please add in your request the names of the two people that are most important in my life. My Son and Daughter. Unless there's a good reason, a 'No Show' will be followed by a Negative Reference. I may say No to another couch surfer because your coming, and this isn't fair. So if your plans change, and you can't make it, please send me a message saying so. Thanks :-) ABOUT ME I am ALL CANADIAN. My ancestors way back when come from Austria, Poland and the Ukraine. I'm not a 'Local' here in Goa, but have been here a long time so some think I am :-) I'm a Dad who has spent many years of my life dealing with Cancer and the consequences arriving from it. Then my brother and son did some travelling to India and Asia in 2007. This inspired me. So I decided enough is enough. No more hospitals and doctor's. There's a whole world out there for me see, and lot's of great and interesting people to meet. So off we went. My bro to India, my son to South America, and me to the Middle East/North Africa in '07/'08. Then I went home for part of the summer of 2008, followed by my 2008/2009 travels through the UK, parts of Europe, India, Nepal, back to India before heading home in May '09. Then I was in India again from November 2009 to April 2010, and from October 2010 to March 2011. I was home again spending my time chillin', gardening, cooking, and having fun. I attended a Yoga seminar. A Gathering. A few Music Fests. Spending time with my son. Visits with my beautiful daughter. Gardening. 1st crop from my Nectarine Trees. They were so good. Then India again from November 2011 to the middle of April 2012. I have owned a Restaurant and Pool Hall. I used to drive the biggest trucks we have on the road here in BC, a 'Super 'B' Train. I've worked in a Sawmill and Veneer Plant. IT'S NOT THE YEARS IN YOUR LIFE THAT MATTER, BUT THE LIVES IN YOUR YEARS 'Every time I come up with a philosophy of life, I find that my circumstances in life change, and I have to come up with a new philosophy. therefore, I have decided to drop the philosophy and to continue with my life'

Architect by profession, here in Goa for peace!
🛏️If you’d like us to host you in Goa, we kindly ask you to click the ‘Accepting Guests’ section above in Android apps and "About Home" section if you use a IOS, read the couch description, and, check our couch-photos, so everything is clear before your visit. Unfortunately, requests from guests who skip this step will be declined. 🙏🏽 We’re not ones to talk much about ourselves, especially not in a self-promoting way, but we do understand that a safe and meaningful surfing or hosting experience begins with a bit of honest introduction. So here goes: We’re Saloni and Shyamal. We share a love for travel, culture, and meaningful connections. Shyamal hails from Delhi and brings his calm, grounded personality to our home and adventures, while Saloni’s spent years in Delhi and Bangalore. We're both culturally Bengalis (ancestry from West Bengal/ 🇧🇩 Bangladesh). I(Saloni) began traveling solo in my late teens, exploring India on my own before Shyamal joined me. Together, we’ve seen a tiny fraction of 🇮🇳 hope to see a larger part of the world in this life. Both of us are ambiverts but lean more towards introverted tendencies. 🥳🍷🚭 We don’t smoke and enjoy an occasional drink. Parties aren’t really our thing, but we love intimate gatherings with good food, meaningful conversations, and a relaxed environment. ☯️ We’re both atheists. That said, we respect everyone’s beliefs and live by the philosophy of live and let live! We're pro-feminist, anti-fascist, and imperfectly-sustainable♻️ beings. ☮️🏳️✋🏻✋🏼✋🏽✋🏾✋🏿✋🐾🏳️🌈👾 No matter who you are, what you believe, you're welcome here. We believe in being good and doing good above all. 🔏 We usually give our guests full privacy, where we don’t talk much, invite you in, or offer too many things by default. This might seem a bit distant , but our only intention is to make sure everyone feels comfortable. We’re happy to chat, cook together, or spend time if you ask, if we can, we will, and if we can’t, we’ll let you know honestly. By default, we like to give people space to enjoy their stay without feeling pressure to talk or spend time with us. Couchsurfing brings us so much joy. While Shyamal prefers to stay off social media, Saloni shares glimpses of our life and travels on Instagram @the_travel_pundit. For any Couchsurfing-related communication, we’d love for you to reach out to us directly through the CS platform. We work across different time zones, so our schedule stays moderately packed. Whatever time we have outside of work, we like to spend it with each other : Saloni, Shyamal, and Jiji ; or with any surfers we’re hosting. So, we kindly ask you not to message us solely for Meetups (ie connecting with local Couchsurfers without hosting at home), whether you’re visiting our area or we’re traveling to yours. When reaching out, please introduce yourself and share a bit about your plans,it helps us connect better. We prefer casually-chatting after meeting in person and might not respond immediately to casual messages or just- "hi'. Help us gauge sincerity and know you're well-prepared for the stay we offer, no surprises! Please take a moment to read the 'Accepting Guests' section before sending a request. We're always excited to host kind, diverse travelers. 请先阅读 "接受客人" 部分 Lee primero la sección "Aceptando Huéspedes". Lisez d’abord la section "Accepter des invités". Latest Update 😃 My life has changed a lot in the last few years and has slowed down a lot. I am from London, England but I am currently based in a small village in Cancona, India called Rajbag 10 min walk from the beach and from Patnem Beach, i am living a quiet life everything is closed here by 10pm. My days during the week i go out in the morning for excersize and then work/socialize in the afternoon, hangout on the beaches/sunsets/cafes, exploring the local vegan options, going to Kirtans, Ecstatic Dances, Jam sessions and different music events. Generally hanging out with people of the local community. Currently trying to learn to play the Ukelele (any help with that excepted 😃) I have a spare room with a double bed and happy to host 1 person, possibly two, that are happy to share a bed. It's important that we keep the house clean and tidy at all times. I love cooking and learning new food recipes so would be nice to do so together. please don't ask to much in advance, I prefer last minute, If you are just looking for a free place as you don't want to spend money on a hostel, i am not your man. If you are looking for a nice exchange to meet and hangout and share time with nice people, send me more then just a "i need a place to stay" message and let's try to meet. I am very interested in spirituality, meditation, yoga, personal and spiritual growth and many different spiritual traditions, I like to cook nice healthy vegan food and share with others and the occasional glass of wine. I traveled around South America fron November 2017 to July 2018 and have been really lucky with meeting so many nice people, especially the local community of Lima, having spent 10 weeks in the city. I than came back to Europe in July and now on the European leg of my tour 😃 I lived in Sofia Bulgaria, for 3 years and that's were i joined CS and loved it. I have a special affinity to that country as well as to the Balkan region in general, were i travel too as often as possible. I love wine and anything to do with the Balkans, although since turning vegan that allows for a lot less food options 😃 I really like meeting lots of people from all different cultures in the world and to learn from them as much as possible. I enjoy politics, history and the world, i can get carried away into deep long conversations in politics. PHILOSOPHY You can never know enough. knowledge is your key to the world.
