CURRENT MISSION Live lightly on our finite planet, advance sustainable practices, see the world and do good. ABOUT ME, I: have always had my head in the clouds which has been both a burden and a gift; grew up on the coast of Maine with powerful seasons and a big family; have always felt a deep connection with nature and have a built in Aldo Leopold test, making sure what I am doing is bettering the natural world; attended small liberal arts colleges in New England stressing community, sustainability, and responsibility (www.coa.edu, www.sterlingcollege.edu); left a life of sailing, laughing, climbing, swimming, and learning with inner-city, underserved youth in the US (www.sailtraining.org) to work in academia. PHILOSOPHY Changes from day to day with a few central themes: Health is wealth; Everywhere is here anytime is now; Laugh and smile; Make connections, and help in some way. 'Look around you, wherever you go; these people are your teachers.' - Rich Borden, Professor of Human Ecology, College of the Atlantic Reading moralists, extinction and deforestation statistics, or well written papers, I want to study and write; generally be studious and work hard to advance better practices. Sharing wine with Dave and Krunch the cooks, Adam Czaplinski the poet, reading Kazantzakis, Lao Tzu, Milarepa, Abby, and Whitman I want to laugh swim, run and dance - enjoy for the sake of enjoyment. A quote from 'Love After Love' by Derek Walcott: 'The time will come when, with elation, you will greet yourself arriving at your own door, in your own mirror. And each will smile at the other's welcome saying sit down. Eat. You will love again the stranger within yourself. Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life, whom you have ignored, who knows you by heart.'

Warum ich auf Couchsurfing bin
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING Before I knew about couchsurfing I was hitchhiking and hopping freight trains all over the US, Canada and Mexico and staying in nature or with new friends. Then as now I offer a genuine smile, a keen sense of adventure and an indefatigable positivity. I learned about couchsurfing while living in Europe and have traveled and stayed with CouchSurfers all over the world. I've stayed in many homes, from a traditional Berber cave-house in the High Atlas to an Agritourismo and WWOOFing farm in Maranello, and have had many happy times thanks to this resource and the kind of people it draws... COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE I like to share and have had ample opportunity to offer and take up bivouac sacks in the woods, cave houses in the mountains mansions in the hills, space on the couch, tents, backseats, campers, spare rooms, freight trains, greenhouses, docks, loosed sails, agritourism farms, cement shacks on the edge of the desert, ships, bunks, settees and hammocks.

Eine tolle Sache, die ich getan habe
Midnight freediving from our anchored ship near the Channel Islands (of California) into a mass of small common squid - blackness and phosphorescence all around me like being in space amid shooting stars.
