Any help being shown around, introduced to local cultures and day to day life as well as a place to stay for a night or two would be greatly appreciated.

So this is kinda of a tough one, so many to choose from! Some of my favourite films are 'Big Fish' 'Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind', 'Princess Mononoke' ... Currently reading the GOT books and building a stack of others to read after. Music wise, I'm a fan of John martin, Jeff buckley , Ray lamontagne, Bonobo, Pink floyd and Tash Sultana to name a few, basically depending on my mood I would listen to anything from chill out to classic rock, and many, many things in between. I love listening to live music and you'll usually find me singing along quietly.
