No more Monday night potlucks?
Hi everyone. My cousin and her friend just arrived from Mexico. They were interested in meeting locals, and I told them about the Monday night potlucks. Then I came to check the group and where the next potlucks were going to be, and I found no group at all. Does it still exist? Or was I just graciously removed from it? Thanks!

Hey Carlos, The majority of CS activity has died out for a few reasons. All the CSers that became good friends still hang out all the time and have fun, but with changes to the site and some other reasons (lots of people moving to other cities or outside of the city), nothing is organized through CS anymore. And no you weren't removed from the group, many groups that existed have been removed with this new CS website model...
Put your friends in touch with me and I'd be glad to try and get them in on whatever we have going on! The Monday night potlucks don't happen anymore, but after an awesome potluck this past Saturday, we'll hopefully start doing potlucks with the whole group more often

I am hopping that the ambassadors are out of town traveling or otherwise preoccupied. I was very excited about the Couchsurfing activities because of the overall concept of world brotherhood. And the activities of people that are also excited about sharing that concept. I don't want to be that "outsider" either. But I must confess, for me that would not be new! One of my contacts whom was a friend briefly agreed with me that I should organize an event for fellow Couchsurfers. I am presently working on that. Biggest hurdle is location as my living arrangements are not favorable at this time. Message me here if you are interested in meeting up at the Comet bar in Northside or some other event. I like the Cincinnati Art Museum so that would be a good "tourist" tour.

Can I be added to the correspondence as well? I am relatively new to couchsurfing and just started to get more involved right before the website changed over. I wondered what happened to the events that I had seen listed previously, but due to being out of town I had been unable to attend those.

I don't check the CS website very often nowadays, and neither do the folks that used to be active, so I'm going off of email instead. This way doesn't necessarily build the CS community via the website, but for someone that is new to the city, it allows me to still give them a welcome to the city and introduce them to some other CSers who don't use the local CS community site anymore.
Up to each individual whether or not they want to share their phone or email. Similar to when someone sends a couchrequest, you look at the person's profile/references and decide whether or not to accept the person.
Not so much a security issue for me but in the sprit of brotherhood in the community and friendship to travelers foreign or domestic a non-exclusive welcome. So I haven't been asked for my Email or have received a private message then I will assume that I am as Aime has expressed an "outsider". I must also express here that I feel more welcome among strangers in Europe! Goodbye!

Since the CSers that I've known for a while and hang out with don't use the CS website very much anymore, I communicate with them via email and phone instead. The fact that a community of CSers exists in the city who don't frequent the new CS website, doesn't take away from the community that exists. Yes, it makes it more difficult to find that community, but I don't think offering a welcome to it here and there is worse than offering no welcome at all.
So when I do login every now and then, I just look to see if there are posts of people that are new to the city that I can maybe help welcome.
Sorry to hear you've found more welcome among strangers in Europe. I've been overwhelmed by the friendliness of people here.
Friendly, yes. Generally, my experience in Europe was less intimidating. I experienced a more "christian-clean, straight-forward" attitude toward couch-surfers. I didn't have to lockup my belongings everywhere, nor have "missed appointments" and friendly scam artist attacks that caused some stress in what would have been a great experience... Personal security is a head-game here...prejudice and fear of your neighbor or anyone else is the problem. I suppose I'm too naive to expect honesty and "friend" is a cautious word. Would be interested in others' comments....
