just a heads-up for scientifically interested and nerds:

Saturday 4.11.2017 there will be the "Night of Science" and "DESY Day" in Hamburg running from 12:00 till 24:00.

DESY (German Electron Synchrotron) is a German high energy particle physics site with particle accelerators and also operates the XFEL (which generates extremely intense X-ray flashes to be used by researchers from all over the world).

Just a few days after dark matter day @ DESY, there are still some exhibits around https://artmeetsscience.desy.de

DESY will be crowded, so expect queues at the most popular exhibits, e.g. tunnels/detectors etc

Do you have a time when you want to go there. I was planning to see Desy too. Unfortunately the XFEL and HERA tunnels are not in their list. I have really enjoyed thier liquid nitrogen ice cream last time :)

Maybe you should mention that ALL universities have also open at night from 5pm to show thier research. Some is also nice for non-german speaking people. Unfortunately most lectures are in german. I you are studing in a university and have a programm which is suitable for non german people, just post it here.

well yeah, I had hoped that it was clear, that the DESY Day is just a small part of the overall night of science in Hamburg. http://ndwhh.de has the full program across the whole town.

Also admission to most (all?) the events/lectures/exhibits is free.

Not sure that we go to DESY at all, even if it is a great experience. And they indeed have quite cool geeky stuff there 8-)

I think we (as in family we) will stay local at the Technical University Harburg (search filter on the ndwhh.de site for TU Harburg events is "Eißendorf") or https://www.tuhh.de/tuhh/uni/aktuelles/nacht-des-wissens.html . Less time wasting in public transport. And much closer to home when kids get tired :-)
