If you have the time take the coastal route - it's much nicer and there are plenty of nice towns to stop in (Merimbula, Bega, Jervis Bay area).

yea there is not much along the hume, Albury is good for a pit stop. there is a nice village Beechworth, it's about an hour d-tour. and things get more and more beautiful as you go further into the alpine region, from there. but, you will be driving about three hours just to get to Bright.

there is supposedly some cave paintings near Chiltern, but i have never found them.
