Coronavirus Update Hatyai

Dear Couchsurfers,

The latest update as far as the Coronavirus in Hatyai, is that it is finally here. Just a few days ago, I would remind people that it hadn't yet breached Hatyai and that the city could still be considered a safe haven. This is no longer the case.

I am not sure how many cases there are in Hatyai but I just checked the World Health Organization's Situation Dashboard (live map) and Thailand has 322 cases, that's about a hundred more than when I last checked two days ago.

Here is a link to the WHO website where you can find the map: https://www.who.int

If anyone can provide reliable links to the number of cases in Songkla province or Hatyai, please share that here. This information is meant to help travellers who may still be considering coming to Hatyai or Thailand. My best advice would be to tell all travellers not to come to Thailand at all. The borders were closed as far as I know. It's not a high-risk zone but it does carry a risk. Schools have shut down and a lot of places, including fitness gyms and massage parlours, have been forced to shut down.

If you have any relevant information you want to share, please post a comment. If you have questions, also post and perhaps some local members will have answers for you.

Stay safe, take precautions, and don't let the virus stop you from enjoying your day. You can still be happy. In fact, it may serve as a reminder that life is fragile and that tomorrow isn't always promised. Enjoy what's before you now and don't get absorbed in the media hype. Relax. Disease cannot exist in a state of ease. Take it easy. Peace.
