Nicaragua is perfectly safe if you keep using common sense. Be careful after dark or when streets look deserted, don't walk away with stranger too easy. You can travel around by public transportation without problems. Bus connections are actually pretty good and on-time. Listen to the advice locals give you. Where to go, where not to go to. It's a beautiful country with friendly people. You will definitely enjoy yourself here. Lots of girls traveling alone around here. Please let me know if you have any specific questions.
