If you can make your way to Beacon, NY across the river from Newburgh, the train station there, the MTA, can take you to Penn Station in NYC
MetroNorth runs from Beacon to Grand Central, not Penn.
There's an express bus from the airport to midtown. That's probably the most direct and fastest, if you schedule lines up:
There is a commuter ferry that takes you across the river from Newburgh to the Beacon MetroNorth train station, which will get you to Grand Central Station in NYC.
go to
http://www.mta.info/mnr
(that is the website for train departures from Beacon to Grand Central Station in New York City (not Penn Station short for Pennsylvania station located on 34th street and 8th avenue in Manhattan). to Penn station you can get on an Amtrack train (which is a regular train and therefore more expensive and does not stop in Beacon). Metro North is a commuter train -- takes a bit longer but is cheaper. several stops in Manhattan
Marble Hill (which is on the tip of Northern Manhattan 100 meters from number 1 subway train (it is actually in the Bronx but right across the bridge from Manhattan.
125th street, and
Grand Central Station (which is on 42nd street and Lexington Avenue)
do not be alarmed when they kick you out of the train in Croton Harmon. you need to change trains during non-rush hours (but the wait is not loo long).
when you get to the website click on SCHEDULES (left top corner)
and then on METRO NORTH RAILROAD also top left corner,
then click on LINES EAST OF HUDSON, and then you can put in the boxes stations where you want to go (beacon to grand central station for example) and you will get the times and the fare.
