Singapore
Couchsurfing in Singapore often means hosts introducing guests to a hawker center for the city's best cheap eats, a walk through a heritage neighborhood like Tiong Bahru, or a night stroll along the Marina Bay waterfront. Tiong Bahru itself offers a quieter, more residential base with Art Deco architecture and a strong café scene. Katong, known for its Peranakan heritage, has colorful shophouses and good food at a slower pace than the city center. Kampong Glam, centered around a historic mosque, offers a mix of Middle Eastern and local Malay culture. Singapore is famously expensive for accommodation, which makes Couchsurfing a genuinely valuable budget travel option and hostel alternative here, freeing up money for hawker food or a Gardens by the Bay visit instead of a pricey hotel. Connecting with a local host matters especially in Singapore, since a host can point you toward the best hawker stalls and explain the city's strict rules and etiquette clearly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the best time of year to visit Singapore?
Singapore's tropical climate stays warm and humid year-round, so there's no strict best season, though February to April tends to be slightly drier. The monsoon seasons bring more frequent showers, but rain is possible at any time, so it's more about planning around downpours than temperature.
Is Singapore safe for travelers?
Yes, Singapore is consistently ranked among the safest cities in the world, with extremely low crime rates. The main thing to be mindful of is the city's strict laws around littering, jaywalking, and chewing gum, which are enforced with real fines, so following posted rules matters more than worrying about crime.
Is Couchsurfing a good hostel alternative in Singapore?
Yes, and one of the more valuable uses of Couchsurfing on this list, given Singapore's reputation as one of the most expensive cities in Asia. A free stay plus a host who can point you toward the best hawker stalls makes a real difference to a budget trip here.
What neighborhoods should travelers explore or stay in, in Singapore?
Tiong Bahru is quiet and residential, with Art Deco architecture and cafés. Katong has Peranakan heritage and colorful shophouses. Kampong Glam mixes Middle Eastern and Malay culture around a historic mosque. Singapore's MRT system is excellent, making the whole city easy to reach without a car.
What's the traveler and local community like in Singapore?
Food-obsessed and proud of the city's hawker culture, with hosts often debating the best stall for a specific dish rather than suggesting a sit-down restaurant. It's a community that takes genuine pride in Singapore's mix of cultures and enjoys introducing visitors to it through food.

CURRENT MISSION 193 countries! ABOUT ME I am a Japanese working in Singapore living with my wife, Jennifer. I have been working overseas for almost 27 years ...in Singapore, Kota Kinabalu(Malaysia), New Delhi(India), Kota Kinabalu(Malaysia)again and Singgapore again. I do not have time for a long trip as I am tied up with my job at the moment. I like traveling and to mingle with local people and experience the cultural difference. I would like to make a lot of friends from different corners of the world and do cultural exchanges. If you have a plan to come to Singapore, please feel free to contact me. Also, I will go back to Tokyo a few times a year. If I am in Tokyo, you can also couchsurf at my place in Tokyo.
"Best friends are like stars that light up our darkest nights. Your presence illuminates my life, and I'm forever grateful for you." Firstly , thank you so much of your time to read my profile. My philosophy is to forge acquaintance into a lasting friendship. My profile is long because I want you to understand who you are writing to. I am happy that you have chosen to visit Singapore. Well, I am a professional who is always curious on humanity and like to make new friends from all over the world. Thank you for choosing to visit Singapore - a Sunny tropical city state country. Well, you have made the right choice ! I love nature, animals and museums and engaged interactions with people from different walks of life. I love to seek friends that love good food tasting and enjoy good company together. I love to travel and find out more about the country, I do ask many questions, it doesn't matter if you hv all the answers. I love to make friends with people from other professions and different nationalities . The world is always so fascinating with so many imperfections ! Yes! It's so unique ! Political upheaval , social problems , income gap disparity and many other factors that challenge the humanity . We can talk, ponder, discuss and debate ! I love to learn from interesting people as I always think they could offer some food for thoughts ! They can challenge me and push me to think deeper and critical on issues that few could matter ! My condominium is one of Singapore’s most striking architectural masterpieces—an internationally acclaimed, award-winning landmark in Singapore. Many of my friends were instantly captivated by its distinctive design and timeless grandeur, matched with luxurious amenities at your convenience. My long list of postive and good accolades of CS references speak of my hospitality and personality. I am a very simple and direct person and I will not be intimidated by people who are trying to take advantage of my generous hospitality. If you are trying to seek free accomodations and have no desire to spend time with the host meaningfully, please look for other hosts. I am a very experienced host who knows the needs of a traveller. Of course you can have your free time to meet other people but please communicate clearly before your arrival to avoid any misunderstandings. I am very strict on my house rules. If you are an untidy and ill-discipline person pls look for other hosts. Please read up my house rules carefully under Home section. I will not hesitate to ask you to leave my house immediately if you are disrespectful and do not follow my house rules. These are simple rules if you treat my house as your house, showing your respect. These rules are not difficult to follow. Sometimes, some surfers only show what is advantageous to be perceived from them, portraying themselves to be the victims in fact these people who often break the house rules despite numerous warnings and disrespectful to the host when they were so busy messaging their frds or tinder dates when they were with their host, lacking basic mannerism, shamefully selfish acts. I hope you are not one of them. Some were so unhappy when I told them they cannot be back after midnight as I need to wake up early and go to work. Some of them whom I have to remind them to be neat and tidy and not to mess up my place by throwing their stuff all over my room. Some even tried to bring strangers to my place and caught by me. Of course, they faced the dired consequences. Recently I hv hosted some Couchsurfers who really fit the bill of a freeloader. They came home late despite telling them to be back by 10pm, never write CS references despite telling them twice and they agreed to write but still failed to do so. I will never host such ungrateful people again. The list will go on.... Of course, these black sheeps only constituted a minority group of people whom I have hosted, less than 0.5% of the people whom I have hosted. There are many beautiful and lovely people whom I have hosted too. Some even become my best friends. Being a host, I have always try my best to be a good host of Singapore . I can bring you most of the touristic and non-touristic places in Sg and enjoy good local delicious cuisines as I drive . I set high standards for my hosting and meeting new friends to hangout. Even if I cannot host you due to work and other commitments , if time permits, we can still arrange to hangout as I promise you won't get a discounted experience here. Many of the people I met said it was the best Couchsurfing experience they have had. I still couldnt believe when I met up an introvert CS and after several days of hosting, we have built up the friendship, isnt it amazing? I have organised CS events in the past like Chinese New Year and Christmas parties and yatch cruise to Singapore islands and invited my friends and travellers to engage in these activities. I have also organised karaoke sessions with my friends and travellers. In short, I would give you a deeper perspective of Singapore if you are interested to find out more . If we did not meet that means it's fated. It doesn't matter as we leave it to destiny . We may cross path in this beautiful planet one day ! Life is short, seize the day! I hv hosted more than 700 CS frds just happened some of them wrote under 'Personal' , and not surfers. I do invite my CS friends for musical plays , concerts and other events in Sg. You will be spoilt with choices . I used to live in Vancouver as I have made many frds there too.As times when I couldn't host my friends but we managed to hangout , I was amazed that the references they wrote for me were even better than their comments for their hosts . If time permits, I do organise CS events where I invite foreigners to join to visit mostly non-touristic places , where even the locals hardly go , as some places you need to have a car to reach and no public transport could send you there. Like seeing big Monitor lizards, wild crocodiles , bats and monkeys etc and other interesting places that challenge your perspectives Of course , I do bring my friends to the TOP bars in Singapore , all rooftop bars , bars in 5 stars hotels and bars in Clark Quay , Haji Lane , Boat Quay , Dempsey Hill, CHIJMES, Atlas Bar etc
I am originally from India and have been living in Singapore since 1990. I also spent four years in Hong Kong, a year in Bahrain, and a year in France. I love to travel. I have traveled mainly in Asia in the past, but am planning to go further afield in the future. I am especially interested in Africa - made my first trip there in 2017 to Kenya and Zanzibar. Also Latin America, which I have not visited yet.
