Valencia
Couchsurfing in Valencia often means hosts sharing a proper paella, the dish's actual birthplace, along with a bike ride through the old riverbed park (Turia Gardens) or a walk through the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences. El Carmen, in the old town, is a favorite base, atmospheric and lively with bars and street art, though busier on weekend nights. Ruzafa offers a trendier, more local alternative with a strong café and restaurant scene at slightly lower prices. Cabanyal, near the beach, has a distinct fishing-village feel with colorful tiled houses. Valencia remains more affordable than Madrid or Barcelona, and Couchsurfing adds to that as a genuine budget travel option and hostel alternative, freeing up money for a proper paella or a Fallas festival experience instead of a bed. Connecting with a local host matters especially in Valencia, since a host can point you toward the paella spots locals actually trust over tourist-oriented restaurants near the beach.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the best time of year to visit Valencia?
Spring (March to May) and fall (September to October) offer warm, comfortable weather, and March brings the Fallas festival, a major citywide celebration with fireworks and bonfires. Summer is hot and beach-focused, while winter stays mild by Northern European standards, making it a reasonable year-round destination.
Is Valencia safe for travelers?
Yes, Valencia is generally very safe, with low rates of violent crime. Petty theft can occur in crowded tourist areas or on the beach, so normal caution with belongings applies. The city is comfortable to walk or bike around at most hours, including the Turia Gardens park at night.
Is Couchsurfing a good hostel alternative in Valencia?
Yes. Valencia is already more affordable than Madrid or Barcelona, but Couchsurfing adds a free stay plus a host who can point you toward the paella restaurants locals actually trust, since the dish originated here and quality varies significantly between spots.
What neighborhoods should travelers explore or stay in, in Valencia?
El Carmen, in the old town, is atmospheric with bars and street art. Ruzafa is trendier and local, with a strong café scene. Cabanyal, near the beach, has a distinct fishing-village feel. Valencia's Turia Gardens park makes biking between neighborhoods easy and pleasant.
What's the traveler and local community like in Valencia?
Food-proud, especially about paella, and outdoorsy thanks to the Turia Gardens park running through the city. Hosts often suggest a bike ride through the park or a proper paella lunch, since the dish is taken seriously here. It's a community that enjoys correcting tourist misconceptions about their signature dish.

*** Important note: For the time being, I’m going to stop hosting guests; I’d love to return to it, but it’s not possible right now. Intento no comprar comida elaborada, sino hacerla yo, y me encanta hacer mi propio pan. EN I am a very active, open-minded, above all very creative person and I enjoy teaching or learning from others. I always try to be guided by a phrase that my mother taught me when I was a child, and I will always try to keep it in mind: "Treat other people as you would like to be treated yourself". If we all did this, the world would be a much fairer and happier place 🙂 . This is the same principle that I try to apply in this great Family that is Couchsurfing. I have organised many hiking routes, it is a great passion of mine because I love to enjoy nature and discover those wonderful places we have in our country and beyond. I also like to travel and I try to do it whenever I can. I love cooking, especially baking. I try not to buy processed food, but to make it myself, and I love making my own bread. I have many more hobbies and interests, but it would take too long to name them all, so we'll leave that for when you get to know me. IMPORTANT: I can only offer accommodation during the weekend. Sometimes I can extend the stay by taking Friday and/or Monday, but I need to be notified in advance. Longer visits are not possible due to my work, as I would not be able to attend the traveller properly.
