ABOUT ME I like traveling and meeting new people from different cultures. I enjoy a good conversation with a glass of (red) wine or a Belgian beer (or 2). I lived in Italy (Modena) for 2,5 years and love the southern way of life. I am a foodie, love to eat/drink and try new things. I work on Saturdays, my weekend is Sunday-Monday. PHILOSOPHY Everything will be ok in the end, if it's not ok, it's not the end! Even a journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step...

"Due to my own vacation, am I not able to host between 20 July and 9 August ;)" "Learn all you can from the mistakes of others. You won't have time to make them all yourself" "Only send me a request if your DTF (Darn Too Funny hahaha) or fucking crazy!" I'm a Cabinet-maker/carpenter, currently I'm working and saving money for travel so don't have a lot of stories to tell yet. I am from Holland, now I live in Brugge in a little big student apartment, i work on weekdays so it will be kinda hard to accept guests then, but if you Send me a good request I might accept you ☺ Updated - 04-08-'16
Please: no more copy-paste request where you just added my name to the heading. Thank you! rule n°1) Read my entire profile + add this line to your request: "I promise I have read your entire profile". rule n°2) Write more sentences in your request than the number of pictures in your profile (to prove you're not narcissist). Please write at least 5 sentences. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ....do not write to me when you're just looking for a free bed! For me, Couchsurfing is about spending time together, having long conversations and learning from each other. I don't know how to make this any clearer. Don't waste your and my time if you're not seriously looking to meet and talk to my wife and I. If you did not read my profile entirely, you can expect an extremely very mean and disrepectful reply. Yes, I find that funny. You have been warned. It was your choice not to read even the first lines of my profile, so don't be mad at me for not respecting you. If you do convince me, I promise you a warm welcome, free beer and a very pleasant stay in Bruges!**** ABOUT ME I really hate traveling and I'm about as narrow-minded as they come. Furthermore, I have no sense of humor at all and I am not interested in anything that involves critical thinking. I also really hate people that understand irony. But seriously: I think of myself as being quite social and hospitable, rationalistic, yet caring and curious to learn stuff about you and about the politics, culture and history of your country or region. I worked with kids and youth all my live. I was a group leader of a large youth movement, worked at the department of youth of a local government, coördinated a youth house and organized all kinds of things for kids and adolescents. I loved being a kid too! (but no worries: I'm not stuck in my childhood! I am all grown-up now :-) That said, my wife and I decided not to have children in our marriage. I even had a vasectomy done. I find a lot of people are curious about the reasons and I like to explain them. So lets talk! In my current job, I work as a team leader of a social non-profit electric waste repair workshop. In 2016 I started my own business restoring and renting old wooden games. I was on a tv-show as a restoration expert. If you want, we can play some of these historic games. i'm in the process of writing a book on the history of some traditional games. A very fascinating and time-consuming multi-year project. I like to hitchhike. I used to hitchhike back and forth to work for 6 years, although I could go by bus for free. I love to take a brief look into other peoples lives. It makes you see your own live in a larger context! And It's exciting, because you never know who'll stop. Nowadays, it takes about 3 minutes of biking to get to work, so hitchhiking to work has become a bit of a joke. I am also interested in sustainability and ecology. I like exchanging tips and tricks on that. And at last -not being ironic-: I really don't like watching or talking about any sports! I don't like dogs either and I am not into I-pad, smartphone, gadgety stuff, so don't bother sending me your Whatsapp-number :-) (I did learn how to send a text message though!) I share my house with my wife Marieke (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/marieke-en-bert) Please do not write to us both. We discuss every request one of us gets.) PHILOSOPHY motto: wie goed doet, goed ontmoet! (Dutch for "who does good things, will meet good things") Beware! I am a very rational atheist and skeptical towards all kinds of new-age stuff and paranormal un-science. I love to discuss those topics though! My favorite philosopher has to be Socrates, but I also adore Michel de Monaigne and I believe in the categorical imperativ of Kant =in my own words: you can judge tho morality of an act by looking at the consequences of that act if it would be universal. That raises the questions: "if everybody in the world would live the way I live, what would happen?" And "Do I still think it is a good way of life?" I am rather sceptical about the hedonist carpe-diem philosophy that a lot of CS-ers seem to worship.
CURRENT MISSION Even a path of a thousand miles begins with one step. ABOUT ME I enjoy life and I like to meet people and cultures. PHILOSOPHY Seize the day, because it never comes back

No bio yet, probably off exploring
Hello everyone! I’m a 37-year-old man from Belgium, living in the beautiful city of Bruges, and a proud father to four wonderful children aged 4, 6, 10, and 12. In 2024, I went through a divorce after 17 years of marriage, which has opened up a whole new chapter in my life. I’m now sharing my life with my amazing men, Javier, who is from Colombia. (we are a Couchsurfing couple.) Together, we are ready to embrace new adventures and open our home to guests. Javier speaks fluent Spanish, and I speak English, Spanish and Dutch offcourse, which makes us a great team to show you around our stunning city. We love connecting with people from around the world, sharing stories, and creating new friendships. However, please note that during the weeks I have my children, we’re unable to host guests. I’m funny, gentle, and respectful. In my daily life, I work for the Flemish government in the economic migration department, which has given me a deep appreciation for meeting people from different cultures. 🌍 We look forward to welcoming you into our home, sharing experiences, and perhaps crossing paths on one of our future journeys!
Hello! My name is Michael, I’m 34 years old and I was born and raised in Belgium. I love exploring the world and discovering new places, cultures, and people. Whenever I get the chance, I try to travel somewhere — even if it’s just for a spontaneous weekend trip. I probably see myself more as a world citizen than someone who belongs to only one place. When I travel, I like to stay flexible. I usually plan things day by day instead of following a strict schedule. If I really enjoy a place, I prefer having the freedom to stay a little longer and experience it properly.
