Hi there š (Updated DEC 2024) I'm Jamie, and I'm the one with the beard! Originally from the South West of England, and currently back in Plymouth for a bit at least, and just wanting to make more friends with friendly people. Over the last two years... Quitting my jobs in April 2023 and started travelling, originally with my partner through the Americas. Then New Zealand SEP 2024 for a brief and dramatic time finding myself on more of a solo adventure. I have been a member of couch surfing since 2016, but until 2023 never actually had the opportunity to surf or host. The aim is to travel and take this time to see as much as possible so am trying see and do more, meet lovely people and have some great experiences as have done so far hence wanting to do lots more couch surfing. Why I'm on Couchsurfing
To make friends globally. Over the end of 2022/ start of 2023 continually discussed the idea of a year out traveling and in April 2023 quit my jobs and decided to just do it. Since then spending time travelling using Couchsurfing and Workaway. Working on farms, homestead's, jungle, islands, ranches, community's, pet sitting, house sitting, camping and hopping across countries on friends (new and old) sofas, floors and spare rooms. Initially starting in the UK but in September of 2023 we flew to Argentina and volunteered and Couchsurfed around South America untill Feb 2024. Then headed to central America for a few months doing the same (actually spent the entire two months in Costa Rica) mostly volunteering. Had a brief stop in San Francisco where we road tripped around California for a few weeks. Before flying to Canada at the end of April renting an RV with friends for two weeks, driving from Calgary to Vancouver for another road trip. We stayed in Canada for another five months of volunteering, couchsurfing, exploration and experiences. Before being granted NZ working visas, with the new age rise in New Zealand's working visa. We arrived here in September and had hoped to make the most of the years visa Sep 2024-25, but life had other plans. And amongst that have plenty of good food, exploration, and absorb experiences with great company, meet lots of people and help out where we can.
Music, Movies, and Books
Currently into Ben Fogle - escape to the wild or something along that name or homesteading topic as well as slugging my way through 1984. Pre April 2023 watched a fair amount of Bear Grylls the island when have been with electric. Taste in movies has also follow suit and been along the theme of Wild, Tracks, Into the wild, A walk in the woods etc. I also like the artistic silent motion pictures of Baraka (1992) and Samsara (2011). Though historically (before travelling)I was more than likely to watch something on YouTube from a range of topics as really like the way that the majority of the time you see what the creator had intended without any third party interference in the edit. Which just makes everything more authentic even though not necessarily factually correct. I had even intend on starting my own channel to coincide with my original journey back in 2016.
