Hello Eric! In Banjarmasin we have 3 Floating market. 1 in Kuin, 1 in Siring Sabilal Muhtadin Mosque (only every weekend), 1 in Lok Baintan. Floating Market Kuin is not many as others, and farther, and the boat rent is more expensive. But you will see the authentic and the oldest floating market here, also you can visit monkey macaque island (Pulau Kembang) Floating Masrket in Sabilal Muhtadin Mosque only in the weekend, in the central of the city. Easy to reach, you can also do some jog and see the park of people gathering. You can also experience go with the kelotok only Rp 5.000 or 0,4$US The best one is in Lok Baintan, but don't go there in the weekend. Go in the weekdays, they are manyyy boats. The best way to see the floating in Lok Baintan market if you are in group and want to enjoy the sunrise along the river, also seeing the local people do their daily activity in the river, go rent the small boat for Rp 300.000 or 23 $ US (if you are lucky you can see Macaque monkey) But if you want the simple way from the ground, faster, then ride a motorbike. But you will missed the river experience. Text me for detail. I would love to help you. I have the motorbike if needed.
Cheers. Uthe
You can go to Kuin or Lok Baintan Floating Market.. It's old and traditional floating market.. You can rent boat (we call it klotok) for 300K-350K IDR (about 25US$) .. But you have to go there in 4-5 am.. The trip to there takes about 1-2 hours.. If you late, there are not much activity you can see.. Or You can go to Siring Floating Market.. It's a new one.. But kind of too crowd.. It's in the heart of the city.. You can go little late until 10-11am..
Floating market in lok baintan is the best floating market to see but from 5-6:30am. You can go the by hire the boat or by motorbike, but i suggest you to hire a boat.
You can go to siring to rent the boat and check for the price. Short trip to pasar lama bridge to mitra plaza bridge and return to siring only 5K/person and from siring to lokbaintan is only 25K if im not mistake its quite cheap to take reguler boat (to make sure for the price u should go to siring) and to hire a boat for big trip (lok baintan, monkey island, go arround banjarmasin river to see traditional houses ) about 250k-300k
