Moving to DM?

Hello community,

I'm considering moving to Des Monies! Please tell me what you consider the pros and cons of the area.

A litte about myself, that would be relevant:

I get around by walking, bus, and biking.

I'm a civil rights activist.

I'm LGBTQ.

I'm adventurous and cheap.

The jobs I'll be looking for will be cleaning, and toolcat/ skid steer/ excavator work.

You're reply doesn't have to be related to me, though. It can be about what you think of the area without all that.

Des Moines punches above its weight in "best place to live" lists. My favorite one from a 2012ish was "Best place to be young, broke, and single." The difference between the cost of living and what you make is better than most places in the US, and that leads to a lot of positive effects.

With the extra disposable income, you'll have more options than in LA. I'd be surprised if your leanings were a problem here, just be prepared for not everyone to agree with you. I would expect them to be civil about it (unless they're drunk).

The economy is better than in LA, and construction is pretty constant. Last time I checked, corruption is lower here than in LA. You shouldn't face hurdles when it comes to getting a job that you wouldn't have in LA.
