Cheapest way from Geneva Airport to Fribourg?
Hello everyone! Me and my friend will be flying to Geneva and heading to Fribourg. I saw the train prices which come close to 50 CHF. Are there any cheaper tickets than that or any alternative ways to get to Fribourg? Thanks :)

Hi, did you tried Supersaving train ticket? There are some offers from 27chf if you book the ticket online from SBB website. Another option could be Blablacar...good luck!
The train every half hour is the only public transport option. Get a free public transport ticket from the machine in the baggage hall at Geneva airport - this covers the train ride from Geneva Airport Station to the main city station (Geneva Cornavin). This saves a few francs. To save further, book a Super Saver ticket up to a month in advance from Geneva to Fribourg, which are up to half the normal price, but limited to a specific train - Geneva is a nice place to spend an hour or two awaiting your train! If you are staying in Switzerland for a while, get a half price railcard to get further reductions. Public transport in Switzerland is fantastic, in no small part to fantastic co-ordination and lack of competing long distance coaches, but is expensive for occasional users and visitors!
You should try with car sharing. The service is called "BLABLACAR". You can put an alert and the app notifies you when something matches with the date and place you want to travel to.
Three options:
Hitchhiking; which you might find challenging in Switzerland.
Blablacar car sharing; probably your best option, if available. Search on blablacar.fr, there is no Swiss website yet.
SBB/CFF Super Saver Tickets; these are online train tickets you can book from 1 month until 24 hours in advance. Discounts go up to 50%. If you can't find them directly from Geneva Airport station, try searching from Geneva central station, it can make a difference in availability. Also note that you can only book this super saver ticket for one specific train, it offers zero flexibility. If you miss that train, your ticket is not refundable and you will not be alowed to travel with it in the next train.
Having said all that. Switzerland is not really a place for budget travelers, unless you have your own camping car/van. Accommodation, expensive. Public transport, expensive. Eating out, expensive.
Best of luck keeping your trip on a budget!
Blablacar!!
During the first 6 months of my stay in Switzerland, I was hitch-hiking all the time, and believe it or not, it was pretty awesome! People are very friendly and I never had to wait long for a lift. Of course, you need to give yourself enough time to get from A to B but if you are on a budget and have time to spare, I definitely recommend it!
Hey, there’s another option but you need to know a Swiss resident or someone who lives in Switzerland and has her/his papers here. Every commune get daily tickets for the price of 35-50.- depends where you buy them. You can travel with them in the whole of Switzerland during one specific day. You need to buy them in advance and they are sold quite fast (there are a few per day available). But it’s a good option if you intend to travel a lot in CH during one single day. The tickets in French are called “carte journalière communale”. They might be a bit tricky to buy, I’m not even sure every Swiss person is aware of this.
Also second trick, the supersaver tickets of course BUT be aware that now that they are available through the application and everybody knows about them it’s not always easy to get good deals anymore (I used to by them an hour in advance to go anywhere, now forget about this you need to buy them a month in advance). However one thing not many people know is that for whatever reason sometimes (even often) the app says there are no more supersaver tickets and as a matter of fact there still are but you have to buy them on the internet instead. It might also be an option to do GE- lausanne and stop there to it’s a nice town. And then Lausanne-Fribourg.
Voilà hope that helps any CS traveller out there.. I know transport is excessively expensive here..
Swiss are not that good with carpooling but I’ve also heard bla-bla car is good.
The advices above are great.... new is this website...just in case https://fr.goeuro.ch/
If you want to travels with the public transport. I advise you to use bus compagnies. It is much more chearper then with the train...
