Great things to do on West Coast ? 10 days from Copenhagen till Göteborg :)

Hello :) I'm from France and I will visit Sweden in August ! I plan to land in Copenhagen, then spend 3-4 days in the area (Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg...), and end the trip with 3 days in Göteborg, I heard there was a big festival in the city in the middle of august !

I am hesitating on some destinations for the middle of the trip. I would like to go to Bohuslän, but as I will be travelling only with buses, I'm not sure I can access this place and stay. I don't really know the area... I was also thinking of Halmstad, or maybe a detour to Jonköping, it doesn't seems too far (3-4 hrs of bus i think ?). What would be your must-do ?

I would really love to go on some outdoor activites, like canoeying, or walks... The perfect thing for me would be finding a place to do horseriding, I've been practicing during 8 years and I desperatly miss this sport. So discovering swedish nature with horses would be like amazing to me... Do you have some adresses to recommend ?

I am not a local from Gothenburg, but have been here for 3 years and I will attempt to answer some of your questions!

The big festival you are talking about is probably Way out West! Here is the link to it - http://www.wayoutwest.se/
In Skåne, I love Lund and the beach at Lomma. I am sure there are a lot of nice places, but I would highly recommend Ladonia in Kullaberg on the top of Skåne. It is a place at the coast where two famous sculpture pieces have been constructed; Google it to know more!
Bohuslän is fantastic for hiking trails and camping if you are into that, if not I will at least recommend the islands and especially Marstrand! Try Kungälv if you are into castles!
Halmstad is a nice little town with a beach, I will also recommend Varberg as it on the way from Halmstad and Gothenburg.
In Gothenburg, the archipelago is a must visit, and probably the canals in the city can offer you canoeing (I am not sure though)
I am not sure of horses, although a friend of mine is a horse trainer for kids, she may probably know more...

Hi Audrey,

I live in Mölndal which is in the greater Gothenburg region and am used to travel by busses and trains.

The festival you think of might be Way out West as pointed out above. It could also be Kulturkalaset (http://goteborgskulturkalas.se) which has a wider audience and involves more of the city.

I would recommend a stop I Varberg on your way north from Helsinborg. Just get off the train and you are within walking distance from the castle and nice coastal walking paths. You could spend a few hours there and then continue with the train north to Gothenburg on the same day.

I would also recommend one day in the Gothenburg archipelago. You can get to some nice Islands with ferries included in the standard travel fares.

As for Jönköping the bus ride from Gothenburg is about 2 hours.

Thank both of you ! I was indeed thinking of Kulturkalaset, I will not be in Göteborg for the Way out West :)

Kullaberg seems really nice ! A friend of mine will host me in Helsingborg and we will probably go hiking around there

The idea of Varberg is very nice ! I didnt realized that Helsinborg and Goteborg was so close, like just 2 hours of bus, so a day in Varberg can do fine.

Thank you for answering to almost all of my questions :) I'm still open to any suggestions tho, I feel like I am soooo much to see !

I just keep going with this obsession about take a horseride in the region ahah ! I saw looot of ridklubb on map, but it's difficult to get informations about if its possible or not to go, for example, on 2, 4 hours, or a full day, on a "tour" (my english is not perfect, im sorry for that)
