Depends on what you're into. And how much time you have. I recommend yats if you like Cajun/creole cuisine. Broad Ripple is the main strip with all the bars but is more of a college crowd sometimes. The canal downtown is great if you just want to walk around and sight see. Massachusetts Ave is another good strip of bars and restaurants. The cultural tail is good to check out if got want to sight see and or bike around. Monon trail is good for walking running biking.
You absolutely MUST check out Tappers Arcade Bar on Virginia Ave! I'm i my early 30s myself and the combination of great craft beer and 1980's arcade nostalgia is unbeatable. They don't serve food, so eat first or they welcome people to bring in their own takeout. Nearby Fountain Square has a great vibe, it's a more hipster scene with a whiskey bar, White Rabbit Cabaret for a great and authentic burlesque show, and Duckpin bowling are a lot of fun. All this nestled in with art galleries and interesting restaurants/shops. My favorite Indy area by far.
Depends on what you are interested in. There is a decent bar scene, surprisingly nice malls if that's your thing, walking or paddle boating the canal is a good way to spend an afternoon, the international market district has all kinds of foreign food, there are a couple of comedy clubs, and the Monon trail that will take you from Carmel to Broad Ripple, broad ripple has for of a hip feel in my opinion but really good breweries, Colts games or a baseball game if you like sports, ifor you like car racing definitely check out the Indianapolis motor Speedway. Indy has a little bit of everything.
since you're in your early 30s I would not reccomend broad ripple unless you want ot hang out with the college crowd. Downtown would be a better option for you. MAss ave for going out at night. during the day you have Indianapolis Museum of Art, one of the best in country. You can also use yelp to find some good foodie places around.
If you like to cook, check out Trader Joe's and Penzey's spice shop in castleton. If you preferred eat local, I could recommend: Patachou, Amber Indian, Ruth's cafe, Public Greens, The Cake Bake, and the Garden Table. If you're into live jazz: check out the Chatterbox or Jazz Kitchen. Museums: IMA, Eiteljorg and Indiana History are nice. If you like art, check out first Friday's art walk around the city: fountain square, and downtown indy. There's also theater, live outdoor concerts and indoor rock climbing. So much...Go explore!
.. wow dat was so helpful .... am going to indiana as well and was wondering wht 2 do there
Sorry, my response is a bit last minute, but there is a lot going on this weekend.
Today: Beer fest 2 wine festivals Feast of Lanterns (food trucks and local artists) Light Festival (at night) Devour Downtown
Devour is until Sept 4th, and Lights Fest runs until Sunday night at 1am.
There are some great mountain biking trails (Town Run Trail Park, Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park). Also a few climbing gyms - I would recommend Climb-Time Indy, although Hoosier Heights has an astounding facility. Live music most nights: the Chatterbox is my favorite venue for some good jazz and cheap drinks.
In my early 30s, love in and love broad ripple. Def not just a college crowd.
Dancing ideas: Saddle Up Saloon for Line Dancing - Jazz Kitchen or Red Room for Salsa/Bachata - Fountain Square Theater for Swing Rooftop Garden - rooftop bar Walk Around Bripp - Flatwater Restaurant has great live music on the canal (pro tip: buy your own bottle of wine and snacks and sit on the other side of the canal across from Flatwater for free music and cheap food/drinks) Play sand volleyball with friends at Canterbury Park Trivia Nights at SO many restaurants Are you a fit junkie? Try the november project or Back on my Feet or 317 series for running FGL Fest is happening soon Childrens museum, zoo, white river park, DT canal, etc.
