Hi, looking for a place in Jakarta, but only find expat traps.. Where do normal people live? Thanks!
Me and my bf are moving to Jakarta for work. We are going in January, so we are browsing the internet but all options (in english...) feels very expat-y. Work should be located in Jakarta Selatan, so we would be wanting to be somehow close, or close to accesses. Is it realistic? On what would we be compromising? Would be happy to contract a real estate to help us find something that feels normal and within our budget :) Thanks for your feedback!

Where is exactly in Jakarta Selatan? It's usually expensive in that area. But you can browsing place to stay through website, such as www.lamudi.co.id/Jakarta/rent or www.rumah123.com. You can put your budget there to find the suitable place. Please inform me if there's something you want to ask more.
Try apartemen casablanca mansion or taman rasuna apartement. The price approximately 8-9mio permonth for 2 bedrooms exclude utilities .
You could try lamundi as previous advice or www.sewa-apartemen.net.
Here is so many places to visit n u can stay.. See you in jakarta
What kind of place are you looking for? Where exactly your future office is located --- bcoz South Jakarta is a large area? Is it a house or apartment? How about the budget? As it mentioned above ,it's true that Jakarta Selatan (South Jakarta) area is more expensive than the others. Perhaps you may find it in www. urbanindo. com. Or if you need local people to give you some advices (after you find 3-5 options), I'm willing to help (free of charge).
South of South Jakarta đ we are looking for flats, we didn't even consider a house to be possible! And now my bf is in love with the prospect of a pool and a gym... haha
Where will your office be and what's the budget rent? How many minutes of traffic jam can you endure to get to work? I can PM you my experience looking for a place myself November last year.
Cheers
I meant the budget range **
:) the office is in the south of Selatan, at least according to googlemaps. I have no idea how the traffic is and how people move around, so i would def appreciate your experience! Our budget is max 800 USD/month
Hi Luisa, the reason I ask the location specifically is because the closest you could find an accommodation to your work is the better. Traffic in the morning here is not one you'd want to mess up with :)
There are 2 places I can suggest you, because I have friends whom had lived there:
Kemang Vista Residences (around 5.5 million rupiah per month) https://www.google.co.id/maps/place/Kemang+Vista+Residences/@-6.2772549,106.8156773,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x2e69f18a9e2292ef:0xe95cbde2f08e490b!8m2!3d-6.2772602!4d106.8178713?hl=en
Mutiara Guest House (around 8.5 million rupiah per month) https://www.google.co.id/maps/place/Mutiara+Guest+House/@-6.2766597,106.805933,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x2e69f18d0838fb39:0x28e589ecd1dfe0e9!8m2!3d-6.276665!4d106.808127?hl=en
Both are listed on Google maps, so have a look at the locations, which is the more convenient for you and which one is under your budget with the given facilities.
If you like living in an apartment setting, the cheapest in the south is Kalibata City. For 2 bedroom apartment the budget range is between 4.5 to 5.5 million, depending on how nicely furnished the unit is.
Good luck and if you'd like to ask more, feel free to send me a private message here :)
Cheers Yuki
Like mentioned above the options are various and Jakarta Selatan area is pricey. Your options would be depend on the area where youâll live in, is it apartment or house, the office location, what kind of transportation that youâre planning to have to commute (some people use public transportation such as TransJakarta which is convenient and has many shelters in front of office buildings and apartments).
We would def use public transports. Is there any good website to find info about those options?
Mmm.. In my knowledge we donât have many of public transportation websites. But I think you can try to install Trafi, the public transport information there is helpful. You can see TransJakarta routes, bus, Commuter Line and Angkot (am not really suggesting you for this one personally). I think for expat TransJakarta would be a better option though, you need to have Flazz or e-money as a payment method. You can also use Gojek, Grab or Uber to avoid any hassles and theyâre more convenient. Just fyi, the traffic in Jakarta is really bad during the weekdays in case youâll be surprised at first đ
i usually a place through olx.co.id. you'll get tonnes of options. However, you do have to know where you want to live, first. I would suggest try monthly rent in Taman Rasuna apartment complex first as it is in the middle of the city and the price there is not so expat-y. Stay there for a month or two while getting to know the city then choose. Try also areas like Tebet, Rasamala, Kuningan. Btw, be ready to pay rent one year in advance if you choose for a house.
Good advice, thanks! Btw how does this 1 year in advance work? Is there a caution? What happens when stuff geta damaged? And if yuou leave the flat earlier, would you get the corresponding money back?
I live in South Jakarta. Jakarta selatan area is pricey. what kind of place do you want, apartment or house?
1BHK at Kalibata City would be only US$300 per month. Try airbnb too.
Jakarta Selatan? Maybe you can rent at Kalibata City
Will have a look, thanks! Are the neighbourhoods actually very different?
