I'm not sure what budget you're looking at when you say fairly affordable but here are some suggestions off the top of my head. Cheapest - Rooftop bar at the Le Tour hostel in Jingan (beers around 20-30rmb) Average - Captain's bar in the Bund (great Bund view as well, beers around 50-60rmb) Mid to Above average - Kartel (they do French food and wine/ cocktails. Around 70-80RMB a drink)

I wouldn't exactly qualify Bar Rouge as affordable, but if you go with girls to the Ladies' night they host every Thursday and check the password on smartshanghai.com first (it's currently "MVP", but better check), you can get everyone in for free and the girls can slip you a drink or two of their free mixed drinks ;) They definitely have the best view! Otherwise there's also The Cut in the IAPM Mall. They have a three Mojitos for 100 rmb deal on weekends, but I'm not sure how long their rooftop terrace will still be open! Enjoy ;)

Hi Jonas, I will suggest Bar on the top of Captains hostel, that is your best bet for rooftop bar with a good view with decent prices. There are plenty of nice rooftop bars in shanghai but drink costs 80 and up at least.

Kartel on Xiangyang Lu/Julu Lu is my favourite rooftop bar. Happy hour is before 8, I think.

Also, Barbarossa has a great roof terrace and half price cocktails before 8.

Check out the Living room in the Hyatt tower. A nice secret place for a classy drink with view. Tea session pricy but the other drinks are fine. Not a place for party...
