Fiberglass boat repair
Even the best and most experienced men and women on the sea have been known to scratch, scuff, crack or break off pieces of their boats in a moment of haste, accident or transfer. Thanks to the development of fiberglass it couldn’t be easier to repair a boat that has been dinged while out at sea. So, how and why is fiberglass the best choice for your prized aquatic possession?
Fiberglass is strong, it is durable, flexible and able to cover large areas of your boat or Jet Ski for a fraction of the cost it would take to fix with other materials. Fiberglass is a woven form of plastic, one of the strongest synthetic materials that can withstand all kinds of abuse from the land or sea. Generally all or most boats are structured with a fiberglass inner and outer structure that has been woven in with a polyester resin. When fiberglass is manufactured through a process called pultrusion huge glass furnaces melt materials such as silica sand, limestone, dolomite and other minerals at super high temperatures turning it into a liquid form. The newly established fiber is coated with a layer of chemical substances to hold durability then separate filaments are put through a process called roving to cut the material and dipped into a jet filled with resin.
Topping out the scales with supreme tension, compression and overall strength fiberglass is an ideal material to repair boats with. Fiberglass also is lighter than most other building materials allowing repairs to be completed with ease. Was your boat involved in a collision? Was there damage to the exterior from a storm? Was the exterior damaged from a side swipe, knock with the dock? Or maybe you bought the vehicle used, weathered and it is in need of an update. All of these situations are easily covered with fiberglass repair. Even hot climates where boats are stored in facilities are no match for boats that have been repaired with fiberglass.
The process for fiberglass repair is relatively straightforward. First the boat will be taken and isolated in an area that is enclosed. Having an enclosed space allows for our professionally trained technicians at Mango Pango Boats to use fiberglass without spraying the material nearby. The enclosure is ventilated in some way, either by large ventilated blowing devices, an air compressor or a mixture of both. A generator with high volume output is used to hook up all of the top of the line equipment used to apply the fiberglass to a small area or a large surface.
Intense care for after the fiberglass application is taken to ensure there are no markings on the boat to indicate any work has been done. Normally a fine paint match is used to mask the job and to give the boat an effortless shine before it is picked up and sent back into the water. Quality care is our specialty, the job is taken very seriously. Our technicians have been extensively trained to keep and maintain superior attention to detail and to treat your boat as if it is their own.
