At Hybrid Arts Café, Neath Conquering Addictions. Addiction is a disease : For drug addicts and alcoholics to recover it must be treated as one. Every family and society is affected by addiction, but very few people know there are solutions. As this includes policy makers and the medical profession, unless this changes the hold they have on us will not be broken. This talk at 6-30pm on Thursday 17th August highlights the problems, then focuses on the solutions. The speakers are former drug addict and alcoholic, Robert T-R who has written five books on the subject and his son, Dan who looks at it from the point of view of their effect on families. Dan has delivered extensive talk programs which aim to educate people about the organisations that help the families and friends of alcoholics and drug addicts; Al-Anon, Al-Ateen, Families Anonymous and Nar-Anon. Each fellowship helps families and friends directly affected by alcoholism and drug addiction. Their free programmes help sufferers to find solace with support from others similarly affected: they are spread throughout the UK.
