Come celebrate New Year's Eve in Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. We have a program full of events and will be doing nearly a full week of celebrations! The city of Tarragona, capital of the province of Tarragona, is a port city by the Catalan coast, full of ancient Roman ruins and lovely Mediterranean food and vibes. Weather is expected to be relatively warm and hopefully dry. Time to meet up and explore the city! We’ll wander around town, hitting some tavernas for local tapas and beers, and a couple of craft beer bars. 29th of December: - 09:30: HIKING THE CAMI DE RONDA. Relatively easy 9-13km route from the city center to Playa Tamarit, following the coast. Complete length will depend on the starting and end points, still to be decided. (2.5-3hrs walking, bus back). This event is weather dependent. - 19:00: CENTRAL MARKET AND COCKTAILS. After coming back from the hike and resting for a while, we’ll stop by the central market for a quick bite and then head over to one of Tarragona’s cocktail bars. 30th of December: - 10:00: TARRAGONA CITY TOUR. Highlights include the famous Roman ruins (forum, amphitheater, circus and walls), Mediterranean Balcony, Central Market, Cathedral of Tarragona, Monuments to Los Castellers and the quaint neighborhood of El Serrallo by the port. - 14:00: LUNCH BREAK. Various options to have a Spanish menu del dia in town, or else to visit an arrosseria or a buffet restaurant. - 19:00: PUB CRAWL #2. Back for a second round of our pub crawl! We’ll revisit the highlights from two nights before and maybe check out some new places. 31st of December: - 10:00: REUS DAY TRIP. A visit to the city of Reus (30 mins away by local train), the birthplace of Antoni Gaudi. We'll visit the Gaudi Museum, the local Vermut Museum and potentially a visit to Casa Navas, a modernist-style townhouse, designed by Catalan architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. Lunch will be held in Reus, reserve your place for that! * For those not joining for Reus, bar-hopping and tapas will be done in Tarragona city center from roughly 14:00-18:00 (Kelly). - 19:30: RAMEN DINNER. We'll be having a group dinner at "Yichi Ramen" in Tarragona. You can check their menu on google maps. To reserve a spot, please contact the organizers. Limited seats! - 21:30: PARTY NIGHT. Party in Tarragona on the 31st at night, following the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at midnight. Don’t forget to also follow the Spanish tradition of wearing red underwear and drinking cava! Assuming the weather is pleasant, the event will be held outdoors. Celebrations should be happening in front of the main market in town. Assuming the weather is unpleasant, we'll try to crash some local bar. 1st of January: - 10:30: SPA & DAY TRIP TO Salou (15 mins by train). Salou is a beach resort town on the Costa Dorada that gets heavily bombarded by foreign tourists during high season. Luckily, we’ll be there during low season, so we expect everything to be eerily quiet. We’ll walk on the boardwalk, see the town and stop there for lunch. After lunch, we’ll go to the spa! Aquum is a wellness and spa center, located not too far from either Salou or Tarragona (taxi/bus ride). You'll likely need a swim suit, towel, slippers and a swim cap. (29/39€ entry, to be paid at the entrance.) 2nd of January: - 09:00: DAY TRIP TO Canals & Munne in Sant Sadurni d'Anoia (1.5-2hrs away by bus/train). Cava centre, wine tastings, bodega tour and lunch. Please contact the organizers if interested, this needs to be booked in advance! 3rd of January: - 10:00: REPEAT OF CITY TOUR.
